The artist sings a remake of the song that was originally written by Nine Inch Nails’, Trent Reznor. Cash’s cover song is released on his album, American IV: The Man Comes Around. Reznor:

I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I felt like. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn’t mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. Somehow that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure.

Rock The Boat

Aaliyah’s third single from her self titled album, Aaliyah is released. The song is written two years before the release date but never recorded because her label didn’t think she was ready for an explicit song such as Rock the Boat. Producer Kevin Taylor:

The video is very ethereal and heavenly.

I’m a Slave 4 U

Spears releases her single I’m a Slave 4 U from her album Britney.

We’re in Los Angeles shooting my first single off my new album. It’s basically saying, “I’m a slave for the music.” Like, when you go into a club, you can’t help yourself; you’re enraptured in it. When I go to a club, I can’t just sit there and chit-chat. I’d much rather be on the dance floor, just dancing. And that’s what the song’s talking about.

I’m Just Talkin’ About Tonight

Keith releases his single, I’m Just Talkin’ About Tonight, from his album, Pull My Chain.

I used to make my living in clubs, so I had ample opportunity to watch a lot of ‘tomcats’ hit on the ladies. The woman in this song says, ‘Well, I don’t like bars and I don’t usually do this.’ It’s not saying go and get into bed; it’s saying skip the B.S. and all the other chapters and the heck with why we’re here; let’s have an understanding – this is about right this minute. We’re lonely; let’s talk. It may not be politically correct, but it’s honest, so in that regard, it’s very representative of who I am.
