Receives bionic eye
Flynn becomes first patient in the world to receive an artificial retina for dry age-related macular degeneration after chip is implanted at the back of his eye in a four-hour operation. He can now make out shapes with his eyes closed. He says:
Before when I was looking at a plant in the garden it was like a honeycomb in the centre of my eye. That has now disappeared. I can now walk round the garden and see things.
Stanga, consultant ophthalmologist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, says:
Mr Flynn’s progress is truly remarkable. He is seeing the outline of people and objects very effectively… Ray had to do everything with his peripheral vision – it’s very tiring, it is exhausting… This is new information that Ray’s brain is receiving and his brain now needs to get use to interpreting it.

Severs ties with Trump
Macy’s is ending its business relationship with Trump, and will drop Trump’s menswear collection.
Macy’s is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion. We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.
Trump issues a statement suggesting he initiated the breakup.
I have decided to terminate my relationship with Macy’s because of the pressure being put on them by outside sources. While selling Trump ties and shirts at Macy’s is a small business in terms of dollar volume, my principles are far more important and therefore much more valuable.
Adds 60fps mobile support
The Company announces via the YouTube Creators Twitter account that 60 fps is now supported by both the iPhone and Android YouTube app, a feature that many gaming videos choose to use; including the highest subscribed YouTube creator – Pewdiepie. Earlier in the year the option to use 60 fps for up to 4K video was added to the site, though currently there are few videos uploaded in this format, primarily as the equipment that produces this level of footage is expensive, and the resulting video drains the phone battery.

NBC drops Miss USA,Miss Universe
NBC says it will drop Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, which it jointly owns with Trump.
At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.
Trump stands by his comments and said his “stance on immigration is correct.”
As far as ending the relationship, I have to do that, because my view of immigration is different from the folks at NBC. I told NBC, I just can’t change my stance…NBC is weak, and like everybody else is trying to be politically correct.

Univision ends partnership with the Miss Universe Organization (partly owned by Trump) due to Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants:
Today, the entertainment division of Univision Communications Inc. announced that it is ending the company’s business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald J. Trump, based on his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants. At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country. We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.
Trump responds by saying the Mexican government is putting pressure on Univision to stop him exposing the weaknesses the U.S. has at the southern border:
The government of Mexico and the lobbyists and the special interests have put tremendous pressure on Univision, a company that is very subservient to Mexico, to get Trump to stop exposing the terrible situation at the border and the terrible trade deals that are being made by the United States to the benefit of Mexico. I will not be party to that, because my love of the country is too great to allow this to happen.

PBS cancels the third season of Finding Your Roots after an investigation reveals Affleck pressured producers to violate network standards by letting him have “improper influence” in leaving out details about an ancestor of his who owned slaves. PBS will not run the show’s third season until staffing changes are made, including hiring a fact checker. Gates:
I sincerely regret not discussing my editing rationale with our partners at PBS and WNET and I apologize for putting PBS and its member stations in the position of having to defend the integrity of their programming.

Biter plans to add a seven-story residential building with 90 one and two bedroom apartments, called called HuB Lofts, next to the HuB business incubator. The 1000 sq ft units will rent for $1600 a month and are targeted to those who work in the incubator, with 30 inquiries so far. Opens online store
Clinton launches her online store, which allows Clinton both to sell goods to bankroll her campaign and to build out her email list for fundraising down the road. Visitors to the store can find a $30 “pantsuit te” with the Hillary logo, or a t-shirt with the words “women’s rights are human rights are women’s rights,” which echoes Clinton’s 1995 speech in Beijing. A $55-stitched pillow in the store says “A woman’s place is in the White House,” a coffee mug has the words “Red, white and brew, “a pint glass with the words “made from 100% shattered glass ceiling,” a hoodie, a “canvass canvas” bag, and an I <3 Hillary tumbler.
All the products in the store are American made, according to a Clinton campaign official. The models in the photos are Clinton campaign staffers.

‘Amber Alert’ system introduced
Facebook Canada release a system to send out notices and photos to assist in child abduction cases. A similar system has been working for the past four months in the United States.
[We hope that] the new system would help turn the social network community in Canada into one big neighbourhood watch.

Sanders opens his presidential campaign headquarters in leased office space on the third floor space at 131 Church Street in downtown Burlington. The office is right near City Hall, where Sanders’ political career first gained traction with his election as mayor. Aides say:
Nostalgia played a role in selecting the location.
Staffers are already working at the headquarters office, preparing for Sander’s presidential campaign kickoff rally scheduled to take place in Burlington next week.
Expands to California
Sweetgreen expands to California opening its first store in West Hollywood close to the Farmers’ Market.
L.A. has always been where we wanted to go. So much of what we consider ‘the sweetlife’ was inspired by L.A. and the way people live there.
Because it purchases its food from local sources, the menu is slightly different from stores on the east coast. Two new dishes are a salad called “West Roast” and a rice bowl called “Hollywood Bowl.” Each store has a chalkboard that lists ingredients and where they come from.
We had to get a much bigger board for California. It’s the same Sweetgreen, but a slightly different experience — but that’s how it should be, because that’s what nature created. . . .You don’t have to compromise. You can have great food that is also healthy and also affordable in a cool environment.
Self-driving car test
Google will test 25 of its self-driving cars on public roads this summer. The cars will have steering wheels and brakes — not what the company envisioned a year ago– and will use the same software as Google’s Lexus RX450h sport utility vehicles, which have already self-driven about 10,000 miles a week in recent months. Convincing the public that driverless technology is safe is one of the hurdles the company must overcome. Project director:
This vehicle could go on a freeway, but when we think about introducing the technology, we want to do that very thoughtfully and very safely.

Pubnlishers will receive 100$% of ad revenues on their own ads, or 70% of ad revbenue when Facebook sells ads on their behalf. The app allows sharing of articles to Pinterest and Twitter. Product Manager:
Along with a faster experience, Instant Articles introduces a suite of interactive features that allow publishers to bring their stories to life in new ways. Zoom in and explore high-resolution photos by tilting your phone. Watch auto-play videos come alive as you scroll through stories. Explore interactive maps, listen to audio captions, and even like and comment on individual parts of an article in-line.
