Belief is very important. It’s like when you are riding a horse and you want it to go to the left, you look to the left first and then pull the horse’s head. As a human being it is the same thing: wherever you put your attention is probably where you are going to find yourself. With that in mind, the ideas of imagination and stories are very important for a more real and centralized truth.

The Talks interview

We’ve had crazy guys on our movies and we had an interesting bunch of producers. We had these Polish guys that came: “The Polish guys are coming.” What is that? The Polish guys come and they’re like happy-go-lucky Polish guys and then the German guys came along and here come the German guys. One of the Polish guys says to me (speaks in Polish accent) “Hey when movie come, you come to Poland?” Yeah, okay. We went to Poland for the cinematographer’s film festival up there and it was a total blast! It was much cooler than Cannes.
Slate interview
Carter is interviewed by Slate magazine, as part of its Top Right project, which lists 25 Americans who “combine inventiveness and practicality: our best real-world problem-solvers”. He talks about Gaga’s entrepreneurial deals:
Our strategy is that business follows the creative. We’re not out there scouring the marketplace for opportunities. It just happens. If [Gaga] has an idea that works with a song or a project that she is working on, we go look for best-of-class partners to help us execute it. And a lot of businesses bring ideas to us.
About the upcoming release of Backplane:
The problem is: How meaningful is that social media imprint [on Facebook, Twitter, and her own site]? Just because you have 43 million likes on Facebook doesn’t necessarily translate into 42 million albums sold, 42 million concert tickets sold, 42 million pieces of merchandise sold. So this really builds on a concentrated audience, as opposed to making it bigger.
On his other entrepreneurial projects:
I love entrepreneurs. In the tech space, what I found is this incredible energy that reminded me of the early days of hip-hop. Back then, guys were all starting their own companies. It wasn’t about the money. It was about passion for a specific product or project. I’ve just been meeting a ton of smart kids who have a deep passion. I’ve become an advisor to some, an investor in some of these companies, and they’ve been helping me with some of my projects.

I’m very excited to join this show! Jimmy Fallon is producing it. I play Jesse Bradford’s ex-wife and we have a one-year-old child together so we’re kind of figuring out divorced parenting. Anthony Anderson and Tempest Bledsoe play another couple with four kids and Zach Cregger and Jamie Lynn-Sigler play another couple with one child, so it’s a really fun cast. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

It was a commercial that I have done for my racquet brand that’s representing me, and so they called me and they told me it was going to be crazy, something that nobody has ever done before, but I didn’t assume that it was going to be that crazy. So the guy goes, “Well, we have this 1954 plane right here, and you’re going to play some tennis on the wings.”

It was certainly a dream come true. I had signed a three-year contract with the WWE, but stayed for just over a year, and every day of the year I was with the company was like waking up into a fantasy. Two weeks before making my debut on TV with, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper and Vince McMahon, I was packing groceries at a local store in my hometown. To go from that to the grandest stage of them all was nothing short of amazing.
