Entrepreneur interview

Altman is interviewed by Entrepreneur magazine,

We don’t have any preconceived notions. We don’t know where the next $10 billion company is coming from. They’re all non-obvious. We try to have a totally open mind. I tell the partners our goal is to find as many $10 billion-plus companies as we can, and because that is so restrictive, we have no other restrictions. If we believe a company can be huge, then we’re going to fund it, no matter what their business is…I don’t invest in companies where my mental model is that they need to get themselves acquired in the next few years, or ever,” he adds. “I suspect the companies we’re investing in will go through multiple down periods between now and when they become $100 million companies. Because I think that way, I don’t worry about the cycle.

Comes out as transgender

Jenner comes out as an transgender in an interview with Swayer.

For all intents and purposes, I am a woman. My heart and my soul and all I do in life, that is part of me…People look at me differently. They see you as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything that I do in life — it is part of me. That female side is part of me.

Jenner also says he is a Republican:

I’ve always been more on the conservative side.

And a Christian:

I would sit in church and always wonder, ‘In God’s eyes, how does he see me?’ Maybe this is my cause in life. This is why God put me on this earth…to deal with this issue.

CinemaCon interview

Moore criticizes releasing films simultaneously in cinemas and to on-demand services.

A movie never looks the same on television…We work very hard as creators in creating a theatrical experience.

Moore also says making independent films has boosted her career.

Working in the indie space has helped my career longevity. All of my successes – including my Oscar – sprung from these teeny tiny movies…The great parts are not going to come to you on a silver platter. You need a commercial profile so that investors will invest in something smaller that I’m in. [But] You can’t make a living doing just indie films. Hollywood isn’t in the business of creating parts for actors. They’re in the business of creating product. It’s about making a package.

Seacrest interviews Barrymore during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about Safe Kids Organization.

As a parent, when I’m not on Japanese food tours, my highest priority in life above everything is doing the best for and by my kids. I think we think a lot and live a lot by bringing our kids up safely. But there’s so much about keeping your kids safe in a logistical, pragmatic, new studies, latest research, laws-changing way that will be the biggest game-changer in a parent’s life…It has to do with everything from the message being put into your brain of, you never leave your child unattended in a bathtub. When are the shots important? I didn’t have parents that I could look to and ask those questions. So these current standards on the safety of children, I think, are so incredibly done by this organization.

Seacrest interviews during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about directing the film Just Before I Go.

I wanted to direct this particular movie because it makes you laugh out loud. It’s really, really funny and it’s also really touching. It’s about a guy who wants to end his life and I know it sounds sad he goes back to his hometown to right some wrongs with the people he thinks are responsible for him being in his place. And as he does, he realizes that everyone has problems and he has this big epiphany. It’s a really beautiful, heartwarming story, but it’s laugh out loud funny.

Switching heads will take one hour

Canavero confirms that he hopes to operate on his first patient, and said he will carry out the procedure in China if he is banned from doing so in the EU or former Soviet Union.

If Europe and Russia say “no”, the surgery will be done in China. I’m ready for that. I’ve been studying Chinese for a few years. You should understand that it’s not simply a medical procedure. This surgery has a political meaning. The Soviet Union was the first one to send Yuri Gagarin to space, America was the first on the Moon. The country that hosts head transplant surgery for the first time will become a leader like this.

On the procedure:

I chose Valery for two reasons. First, he’s brave enough and ready to go till the end.Second, his bravery is based on knowledge, he studied everything the scientists have discovered in the area. This way, I decided, he will be the first one to make history

Valery’s head will be cooled to 10-15 degrees Celsius. That is done in cases of surgery on deep areas of the brain. We will have an hour to ‘switch’ the head to a different body. You need a few minutes to join blood vessels. Valery’s head will be detached from his body and transferred to another one in a matter of seconds, and the brain’s blood flow will start in about 15 minutes. The surgery will take a lot of time, the joining process may take up to 18-24 hours. Doctors will be taking turns not to get tired.

On the costs:

Do you love football? I hate it. Nonetheless, you have slackers who meaninglessly stroll around the pitch and are paid $20-30 million a year. I need $15 million. It’s the price for happiness and health for a lot of people. But sponsors prefer spending money on healthy boneheads who can’t kick a ball.

Seacrest interviews Lambert during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about the lyrics to his single Ghost Town.

It’s a bit bittersweet. It’s a bit melancholy. It’s kind of about life always not being exactly what you think it’s going to be, but trying to kind of get through it and make the most of it and be the best person you can be but it’s not always easy. Our dreams aren’t always what we think they’re going to be.

Rudd appears on The Late Show for promoting his movie Ant-Man. He talks about how he was a member of a Letterman fan club as a child.

About 30 years ago, when you first started the show, back when the [Kansas City] Royals were in the World Series, I joined the David Letterman fan club…What it included was a pin, a collapsible drinking cup, a sponge that – if you put in water – would grow, a back scratcher and a balloon.

Kimmel interviews Cox on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live. They discuss Cox’s directorial debut, Just Before I Go, and her fiancé Johnny McDaid’s Irish accent.

My fiancé is from Northern Ireland and it’s a great place – nice people there, But you know, I’m from Alabama and we’re real southern…He’s got this beautiful accent – so we were celebrating our engagement a year ago and in Northern Ireland you say the word ‘now’, not like n-o-w but it’s like n-a-u-w.It’s weird and it’s hard to do – I cannot get it

Seacrest interviews Hiam during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about listing to the single Pray To God on the radio.

We were like, Ok, we’re going to turn on the car and pray to God that Pray to God is going to be on KIIS FM. When I turned on my car and it was on, we all freaked out. We called Este, my mom was crying, my dad was throwing confetti in the air. It was a big moment in the Haim household…Growing up, the radio was it still is the most massive part of our lives because we’re always in our cars. I think people around the world, whenever they ask us, ‘What are you inspired by?’ We’re always like, ‘Los Angeles radio because that’s what we listened to growing up.

Quits social media

James is temporarily quitting social media in order to focus on upcoming games. He says he only needs to communicate with family and teammates.

I don’t have no phones, no social media, I don’t have anything. I don’t care about nonsense. There’s too much nonsense out there. Not during this time, this is when I lock in right now and I don’t need nothing creeping into my mind that don’t need to be there.

Describes plane stunt

In a surprise visit to CinemaCon at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Cruise talks about the experience of hanging on to the side of an Airbus A400, attached by a thin cable, for a major stunt in Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation.

I was actually scared shitless…I was in a harness, on my side, that was kind of loose so you can see the vibration of my body against the plane. I was thinking about edits [and suddenly, the wind ] takes my feet off the wing. [On the second take] I got hit by just a little particle. I literally thought it broke my ribs.

In all the scene took a whole day of shooting and eight takes.

I want to put the audience on the edge of their seats.  it gives the audience a different feeling when [the stunt] is practical.

TMZ releases a police interview video of Sapp talking about the events leading up to his arrest.

I put the $600 dollars on the table, everybody got naked.

He says a dispute began when one of the women asked for a “tip” — and he told both of the women to leave. One of the women grabbed his cell phone and called hotel security. The woman then spat on him — which angered the other escort, and the two women began to argue. The argument spilled into the hallway, where he chased after them get his phone back, while naked. Luckily, Sapp says the dead bolt kept the door from closing and he went back into the room. At the end of the video Sapp appears distressed when the realizes he may go to jail.

‘No question’ about reprising role

Hamill states there was no question that he would reprise his role as Luke Skywalker for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He confirms Fisher will also reprising her role as Princess Leia.

I don’t know if I’m even allowed to tell people I’m in the new movie. What happened was we were at some event that George [Lucas] was at and he asked us through his people to have lunch with him. I said [to my wife, Mary Lou] ‘There’s something big going on,’ and Mary Lou said, ‘Maybe he’s going to do another trilogy.’ And I laughed out loud, because he had specifically told me he would never do another after the prequels…He said, ‘If you don’t wanna be in it we won’t recast, we’ll well write you out.’ I was in a state of shock and tried to keep a poker face. Carrie immediately went, ‘I’m in!’…If I had said no thousands [of fans] would have shown up at my house [like the villagers in Frankenstein.] Not with pitchforks, but lightsabers.

Explains leaving Daily Show

Stewart explains why he is leaving The Daily Show:

It’s not like I thought the show wasn’t working any more, or that I didn’t know how to do it. It was more, Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction…Honestly, it was a combination of the limitations of my brain and a format that is geared towards following an increasingly redundant process, which is our political process. Another plus of leaving? Not having to watch the news to keep up: Watching these channels all day is incredibly depressing.

Tribeca Film interview

Lucas is asked about Star Wars trailers by Colbert at the Tribeca Film Festival.

I have seen the first one. I just saw what was on CBS but I’m going to try to look at it. I want to see it on the big screen.

About the film:

Well, you know, I hope it’s successful. I hope they do a great job. I’m excited…I have no idea what they’re doing.

In turn Lucas asks Colbert why he did not take over The Daily Show:

Trevor Noah is a very funny guy. I don’t want to be the guy to take over for Jon Stewart. I worked for Jon Stewart at that show and my memories will always be of him being the keenest, most intelligent . . . the clearest thinker I have ever worked with before and I just don’t want to. I would never get underneath his shadow. For me, someone who doesn’t know him as well . . . might have a better time on that show than I ever would.
