Opposes Keystone pipeline

Makes Statement0 Comments

Clinton says she opposes the Keystone XL pipeline:

I don’t think we need to have a pipeline bringing very dirty oil, exploiting the tar sands in western Canada, across our border…I don’t think it’s in the best interest of what we need to do to combat climate change…I thought this would be decided by now, and therefore I could tell you whether I agree or disagree. But it hasn’t been decided and I feel now I’ve got a responsibility to you and to voters who ask me about this.

FBI recovers personal emails

Makes Statement0 Comments

A source says the FBI has recovered an unknown number of Clinton’s personal emails from her server. Clinton has said that she deleted 30,000 personal emails out of 60,000 total mails, and that most of the personal mails concerned planning for Chelsea’s wedding, yoga routines and condolence messages. The bureau’s probe is expected to last at least several more months.

Disputes email discrepancy report

Makes Statement0 Comments

After a meeting with the Des Moines Register editorial board, Clinton is questioned about a Washington Post story that says the State Department’s request for her emails was prompted entirely by the discovery that Clinton had exclusively used a private e-mail system. This came three months before, and contradicts Clinton’s account, which is that agency officials asked her for her emails as part of a benign, general record-keeping effort that included mails from other secretaries of state.

I don’t know that. I can’t answer that. All I know is that they sent the same letter to everybody. That’s my understanding…You’re telling me something I don’t know [about the three month discrepancy] All I know is what I have said. What I have said is it was allowed. The State Department has confirmed that. The same letter went to, as far as I know, my predecessors, and I’m the one who said, ‘Hey, I’ll be glad to help.

Questions Mohamed’s ‘motives’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Dawkins writes a series of tweets that question Mohamed’s motives, and questions whether the clock was an invention at all. The scientist linked to a YouTube video entitled Ahmed Mohammed [sic] Clock is a FRAUD, in which user Thomas Talbot alleges Mohamed’s clock is in an invention, but a commercial bedside alarm clock removed from its casing.

If this is true, what was his motive? Whether or not he wanted the police to arrest him, they shouldn’t have done so…This man seems to know what he’s talking about…Assembling clock from bought components is fine. Taking clock out of its case to make it look as if he built it is not fine. Which is true?…Yes, there are other reasons why a boy might take a clock out of its casing & pretend he’d made it. Trying to impress teachers, for instance…If the reassembled components did something more than the original clock, that’s creative. If not, it looks like hoax.

Admits dishonesty with regulators and public

Apology0 Comments

VW U.S. President and CEO Horn admits to the emissions scandal at an event in Brooklyn, New York:

Our company was dishonest, with the EPA and the California Air Resources Borad, and with all of you. And, and . and in our German words, we have totally screwed up. We must fix the cars to prevent this from ever happening again, and we have to make things right, with the Government, The public, our customer, our employees, and also, very important, with our dealers. This kind of behavior is totally inconsistent with our qualities. We are committed to do what must be done and to begin to restore your trust. We will pay what we have to pay.

Volkswagen could face a fine of up to $18 billion (£11.6 billion), criminal charges for its executives, and legal action from customers and shareholders. The US Department of Justice is likely to conduct a criminal investigation.

Says Pope will be assasinated

Makes Statement0 Comments

In an interview with New York Daily News, Sarandon says she is worried that Pope Francis will be assassinated while on his U.S. visit.

I think they’re going to assassinate him. I think he’s done some major, major cleansing of the whole system…I love this Pope. He’s humble . . . he doesn’t live in the palatial whatever. I think he’s a Pope of the people.

She also talks about Donald Trump:

I think people are really starved for something authentic and even though he has no idea specifically what he’s talking about. He speaks to the guy who wishes he could say, ‘Everything’s a mess, we’re tired of the machine, we’re tired of politics as usual.’ . … I think it’s great that the Republicans have to figure out how to deal with him, it’s interesting.

And says she supports Bernie Sanders, and says she does not like it when people dismiss him:

Everybody said that about Obama. It’s like, the laziest way to do politics as usual. To just say, ‘Oh, well, he can’t get elected’. I think at least he’ll make some very unexpected dialogue in the debates.

New York Times profile

Interview0 Comments

The New York Times profiles Shrekli, who defends the Daraprim price rise by saying many patients use the drug for far less than a year and that the price is now more in line with those of other drugs for rare diseases.

This isn’t the greedy drug company trying to gouge patients, it is us trying to stay in business. This is still one of the smallest pharmaceutical products in the world. It really doesn’t make sense to get any criticism for this.

‘Swedes didn’t blow up the Word Trade Center’

Interview0 Comments

Trump is interviewed by Tapper on CNN’s State Of The Union. Tapper asks about the “Muslim question” controversy:

Tapper: [Y]ou are running to be president of United States of America. That includes millions of peaceful, law-abiding Muslims who love this country. This man said, quote, we have a problem in this country called Muslims. You’re not responsible for what he says, but this is unvarnished ignorant bigotry. You are a leader. You are the frontrunner in the Republican race. Do you not have a responsibility to call out the hatred?
Trump: We could be politically correct, if you want, but are you trying to say we don’t have a problem. I think everybody would agree. I have friends that are Muslims. They’re great people, amazing people. And most Muslims like most everyone these are fabulous people, but we certainly do have a problem. I mean, you have a problem throughout the world.
Tapper: What’s the problem?
Tump: Well, you have radicals that are doing things. It wasn’t people from Sweden that blow up the World Trade Center, Jake.

‘I’m a real person’

Interview0 Comments

Clinton is interviewed by Dickerson on Face The Nation. When asked to use three words to describe herself:

Just three? I can’t possibly do that! [Laughs] I mean, look, I am a real person with all the pluses and minuses that go along with being that. And I’ve been in the public eye for so long that I think, you know, it’s like the feature that you see in some magazines sometimes, ‘Real people actually go shopping,’ you know?’

She says she sees herself as an outsider:

I cannot imagine anyone being more of an outsider than the first woman president. So you know, I’m not running for Bill’s third term, I’m not running for President Obama’s third term, but it would be foolish of me not to say, ‘You know, that worked better than what the Republicans offer.

Would not support Muslim president

Interview0 Comments

During an interview with Todd on Meet The Press, Carson says he would not support a Muslim being president.

Todd: Should your faith matter to voters.
Carson: I guess it depends on what that faith is. If that faith is inconsistent with the values and principles of America then of course it should matter. But if it fits within the realm of America and is consistent with the constitution, then no problem.
Todd: So do you believe that Islam is consistent with the Constitution?
Carson: No I do not. I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that.
Todd: Would you ever consider voting for a Muslim for Congress?
Carson: Congress is a different story, but it depends on who that Muslim is and what their policies are.

CBS interview

Interview0 Comments

Gilmour and Samson are interviewed by Mason on CBS News. Gimour describes the thrill of hearing his music on the radio:

You have this idea that there are millions, literally, of people listening to it at the same time as you and that little strange telepathy of a feeling that you’re sharing something live with all those people.

Samson, on writing lyrics:

I walk for miles with [the track] on repeat in my headphones … But the more I walk with it and the more I listen to it, things just start emerging. And the music is so suggestive. I mean, David speaks with the guitar…I didn’t really want to stick my head above the parapet at all. Big shoes to fill, you know. Syd Barrett, Roger Waters.

Malware discovered

Makes Statement0 Comments

Security firm Palo Alto Networks discovers that login names and passwords for more than 225,000 Apple accounts were stolen by cyber-thieves in China. Apple says hackers embedded malicious code into the App Store by persuading developers to use a counterfeit version of the firm’s own software. The program, dubbed KeyRaider, allows hackers to collect data from jailbroken devices.

We’ve removed the apps from the App Store that we know have been created with this counterfeit software. We are working with the developers to make sure they’re using the proper version of Xcode to rebuild their apps.

No ‘moral obligation’ to defend Obama

Makes Statement0 Comments

In a series of tweets, Trump says he has no obligation to defend President Obama:

Am I morally obligated to defend the president every time somebody says something bad or controversial about him? I don’t think so!…If I would have challenged the man, the media would have accused me of interfering with that man’s right of free speech. A no win situation!…This is the first time in my life that I have caused controversy by NOT saying something…If someone made a nasty or controversial statement about me to the president, do you really think he would come to my rescue? No chance!

Accused of altering forms

Accusation0 Comments

The attorney for Brian Mason, one of Davis’ deputy clerks, says he believes Davis has again violated her federal court order by altering marriage license forms by removing her name, making Mason initial the form instead of sign it, and then requiring the form to be notarized. The attorney says it is “really bizarre” that Davis would alter the forms.

A notary has nothing to do with it. Unless she’s got a really good reason, and I’ll certainly be patient and wait to hear it, the only inference I personally can draw from it is she is trying to circumvent the court’s order.

In a separate filing, ACLU attorneys for the gay couples who sued Davis say that the changes on the form require Mason to issue the licenses “in his capacity as a ‘notary public’ rather than a deputy clerk of the Rowan County Clerk’s Office,” changes that “do not comply” with the court’s order to not interfere with her employees who issue the licenses.

These alterations call into question the validity of the marriage licenses issued. Plaintiffs are exploring legal options to address these material alterations.

‘It’s totally fake outrage’

Interview0 Comments

Coulter says her tweets were “ripped out of context, chopped up and sent out in tweets with inflammatory headings.”

It’s totally fake outrage from frauds who want to continue the dump of third-worlders on the country, including Muslim Jihadists, and voted for the guy who just gave a nuke to Iran..Anyone with a pulse knows I am pro-Israel and against the enemies of the Jewish people. I have a whole chapter in my current book praising Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It’s the people attacking me who couldn’t care less about Israel or Jews…The GOP wastes half these debates on issues on which there is already 100 percent agreement,” she told THR. “The GOP is pro-Israel. I’m pro-Israel. … How, exactly, do these Republicans propose to defend Israel, when no Republican can get elected president anymore because of immigration? How is an endless series of President Obamas going to protect Israel?

Dodges ‘Obama is a Muslim’ question

Interview0 Comments

At a rally in New Hampshire, Trump opts for a question-and-answer format.

Man: We’ve got a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims. You know our current President is one. You know he’s not even an American.
Trump: [laughing] We need this question?
Man: But anyway. We have training camps growing, where they want to kill us. That’s my question: When can we get rid of them?
Trump: We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things…

Files declassified

Tribute0 Comments

India declassifies 64 files on Bose. The files will be put on public display, but their contents are not yet known. Some analysts say that the declassified files are not as important as those still classified. It is not known how many more classified files on him the government is in possession of. A source in the India’s prime minister’s office says:

[We can not] declassify files related to Chandra as it [would] adversely affect relations with foreign countries.

Many people in India refuse to accept the official version of events of Bose’ death –that  he died in a plane crash — especially since no photograph of the body, which officials say has been cremated, has been released.
