Business Insider interview

Interview0 Comments

Carter is interviewed by Business Insider. On why he originally turned down Shark Tank:

Originally I passed on doing it and I went home and I talked to my wife about it, and I ended up coming back around…What we thought about is that you can’t be it if you can’t see it. There’s not a lot of black entrepreneurs and I can’t sit there and bitch about diversity in tech and all of those things about access and pipeline if I’m not out there doing something about that…I’m watching the riots in Baltimore, I’m watching Ferguson, I’m watching Blacklivesmatter, I’m watching Jesse Jackson berate Silicon Valley. There’s just all these conversations around race, diversity, and tech. That’s what kind of gave me this shift where I said “It’s time that I do something and lend my voice.”

On working on the show:

You know what, I’ve gained a tremendous amount of respect for the sharks. I don’t know how they do their day jobs and do what they do on Shark Tank. It was definitely competitive for sure, and you get into some really deep negotiations. Luckily once I realized, “Ok, this is what I do every day” I got into my comfort zone. The biggest surprise for me was the length of the negotiations. The producers and editors do a really good job of what can sometimes be an hour and a half-negotiation and edit it down to a seven-minute segment.

Rolling Stone cover

Magazine Cover0 Comments

donald-trump-rolling-stone-cover-imageRolling Stone profiles Trump in an article written by Solotaroff, titled Trump Seriously: On the Trail With the GOP’s Tough Guy. On not having to raise campaign funds.

I’m owned by the people! I mean, I’m telling you, I’m no angel, but I’m gonna do right by them!

When Solotaroff is sitting with Trump watching a newscast, a video clip zooms in on Carly Fiorina.

Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president. I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?

Asks CNN to donate debate profits to veterans’ charities

Makes Statement0 Comments

In a letter to CNN president Zucker, Trump asks for the company to donate the profits from the next GOP presidential debate to charities benefitting veterans. He says he will send Zucker a list of veterans’ groups that he feels should receive the profits from the September 16 broadcast. Trump cites news that CNN is charging as much as $200,000 for a 30-second ad during the debate — 40 times the usual price.

You should view the second debate broadcast as a public service and not accept the massive profits that this airing will generate. While I refuse to brag, and as you know very well, this tremendous increase in viewer interest and advertising is due 100% to ‘Donald J. Trump’…The veterans of our country, our finest people, have been treated horribly by our government and its ‘all talk and no action’ politicians. In fact, some would say they are treated like third class citizens — even worse, in many cases, than illegal immigrants.

‘Iran will be destroyed within 25 years’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Ayatollah Khamenei says that Israel will be destroyed within 25 years.

Some Zionists have said that regarding the result of the nuclear deal they (Israelis) have been relieved of concerns about Iran for 25 years. But we tell them that you will not see the coming 25 years and God willing there will not be something named the Zionist regime in the region.

He also says says Tehran will not expand talks with the United States beyond the negotiations over its atomic program.

We approved talks with the United States about the nuclear issue specifically. We have not allowed talks with the U.S. in other fields and we will not negotiate with them. The Iranian nation ousted the Satan. We should not let it back through the window.

Becomes longest reining monarch

Makes Statement0 Comments

Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest-reigning monarch in Britain’s history by passing Queen Victoria, who served for 63 years and seven months. While inaugurating a new train route along the Scottish border, she says she had not aspired to pass Victoria and simply saw it as a logical result of having lived a long life.

I thank you all, and all of the many others at home and overseas, for your touching messages of great kindness.

Prime Minister Cameron:

Over the last 63 years, Her Majesty has been a rock of stability in a world of constant change and her selfless sense of service and duty has earned admiration not only in Britain, but right across the globe.

British legislators mark the milestone in Parliament and newspapers share special souvenir tributes to the Queen.

Fears being sent to men’s jail

Interview0 Comments

In an interview with Lauer on Today, Jenner says she cannot say much about the crash as she is involved in litigation, but admits her fears over possibly being sent to Los Angeles Men’s County Jail should she be charged with misdemeanor manslaughter.

I remember it happening. That’s about it…A tragedy like this, you’ll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can…That [going to men’s jail] is the worst case scenario. I don’t know. We’ll see. The Men’s County Jail. It is an enormous problem that they would put trans-women in Men’s County Jail.

She also says she has no regrets transitioning.

I think about my life — and where I’m at in my life right now. What a tremendous experience this is. Hardly nobody gets to live two genders in their life. Everybody wonders, ‘Oh, what’s it like to be coming from the other side?’ You know, their thinking, the way they act, everything? And here I have the opportunity to do that. And to be honest with you, everything’s so new and fun. From that standpoint, it’s been great. There’s nothing more, nothing better in life to wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror and feel comfortable with yourself and who you are.

Shifts to cage-free eggs

Makes Statement0 Comments

The company says that it will transition 16,000 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada over a period of ten years to eggs that come from chickens that aren’t confined to cages. McDonald’s currently buys about 2.12 billion eggs annually in the U.S. and Canada, including just 13 million cage-free eggs.

Our customers are increasingly interested in knowing more about their food and where it comes from. Our decision to source only cage-free eggs reinforces the focus we place on food quality and our menu to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

Upset at Davis rally Eye of the Tiger use

Makes Statement0 Comments

Eye of the Tiger co-writers Peternik and Sullivan are upset about Davis’ use of the song at the rally celebrating her release. Peternik:

I was very surprised and dismayed at the misuse of the song I co-wrote with Frankie Sullivan for Rocky lll. The song has motivated thousands through the years to reach beyond their limits. Its use for the release of Kim Davis does not support my views or my politics. I have contacted my publishers to make sure this usage is stopped immediately.

Sullivan:

No! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use ‘My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger.’ I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin!

God showed up in the form of an elected official: Kim Davis, Today I was proud to stand with Kim Davis as she was released from jail. Kim Davis should have never been locked up for being a Christian and for following her conscience and the law…If somebody needs to go to jail, I’m willing to go in her place.

Huckabee: I would go to jail in Kim Davis' place.

Record sandstorm hits Isreal

Makes Statement0 Comments

A massive sandstorm moves into Israel causing health concerns. The population is urged to keep children, the elderly and those with a respiratory illness inside. The dust density is worst in the hill country including the Golan Heights, the Southerrn West Bank and Jerusalem. The storm is expected to last through Wednesday. Governmental Official warns:

. . .for sensitive populations, short-term exposure to such dense clusters of particulates can cause a stroke, heart attacks, and even death. The storm comes in addition to the existing high heat and high humidity. The tiny particulates make their way into the lungs, where they can interfere with the oxygen to carbon dioxide exchange, giving rise to serious problems.

Simplifies annulment procedures

Makes Statement0 Comments

In a document known as a Motu Proprio, Latin for “by his own initiative”, Francis reaffirms traditional teaching on the “indissolubility of marriage”, making clear that the Vatican was not in any form promoting or sanctioning divorce. However, he said he would make it easier for separated couples to obtain an annulment, by eliminating a mandatory review of an annulment decision by a second tribunal, and giving bishops sweeping powers to judge quickly the most clear-cut cases. He says Catholics who sought annulments should not be “long oppressed by darkness of doubt” over whether they could have their marriages declared void.

Defense will present new evidence

Makes Statement0 Comments

Slager’s defense team says it will present evidence at Slager’s bond hearing Thur Sep 10 that includes never-before-seen stills from the cell phone video that are said to show Scott on top of Slager. Attorney’s suggest Scott may not have been completely unarmed the entire time. Slager’s defense team believes his Taser was fired six times and that both the officer and Scott were each hit twice, suggesting there was more of a struggle than prosecutors have revealed. Additionally, Scott’s DNA was on the Taser and that there was blood on Slager’s clothing and abrasions on his knee, and that he had an injured finger.

You need to go back to the incident scene and you need to see where the original stop was and you need to see where the final events took place…Maybe he was found without any weapon on him at the time that he died…Time will tell and I think that you will be able to judge his actions not by just what he said but what the independent evidence is.

Second review confirms classified mails

Makes Statement0 Comments

A special intelligence review by the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency of two emails that Clinton received on her personal account while secretary of state — including one about North Korea’s nuclear weapons program — supports a finding by the inspector general for the intelligence agencies that the emails were marked “Top Secret,” when Clinton received them. Clinton’s campaign disagrees with the conclusion and notes that agencies within the government often have different views of what should be considered classified:

Our hope remains that these releases continue without being hampered by bureaucratic infighting among the intelligence community, and that the releases continue to be as inclusive and transparent as possible.

State Department spokesperson:

Classification is rarely a black and white question, and it is common for the State Department to engage internally and with our interagency partners to arrive at the appropriate decision. Very often both the State Department and the intelligence community acquire information on the same matter through separate channels. Thus, there can be two or more separate reports and not all of them based on classified means. At this time, any conclusion about the classification of the documents in question would be premature.
