Makes Statement0 Comments

The actress pledges to become involved in efforts to curb gun violence at a news conference. Schumer says her second cousin’s package of plans “seeks to address the how,” vowing that these initial public remarks “will not be my last.”

We’ll never know why people choose to do these painful things, but sadly, we always find out how.

Specifically, Senator Schumer is introducing legislation that would allow the Justice Department to create rewards and penalties for states that submit or don’t submit all records into the background check system. The Schumers also called on Congress to fully fund the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which the Senate has proposed cutting by $159 million.

Releases America’s Clean Power Plan

Makes Statement0 Comments

Obama unveils the final version of America’s Clean Power Plan, which sets a goal of cutting carbon pollution from power plants by 32 percent by 2030, compared with 2005 levels. The rule assigns each state a target for reducing its carbon pollution from power plants, but allows states to create their own custom plans for doing so. Obama says that the plans will lead to lower energy bills for everyday Americans and create jobs in the renewable energy sector.

[These rules are] the biggest, most important step we’ve ever taken to combat climate change.Power plants are the single biggest source of harmful carbon pollution that contributes to climate change. But until now there have been no federal limits to the amount of that pollution that those plants can dump into the air….Climate change is not a problem for another generation. Not anymore.

Brother-in-law recounts mother’s escape

Makes Statement0 Comments

Details on the fire that killed Dawabshe’s are revealed by his mother’s brother-in-law, who addresses a Tel Aviv crowd of more than 2,000 Israelis protesting the killing, joined on stage by heads of the Israeli left. Ali’s mother tried to save her baby while fleeing from her home.

This has no precedence. I was with the family at my father’s house, who has illness in the kidneys. And our mother is also ill. After midnight—1:30 [am] at night—each one went to their own home. After a half an hour, the family was surprised that something burning was thrown at their house. It was very strong and the whole house burned. There’s nothing left.
At that moment my brother Sa’ed and his wife Riham caught on fire. Despite the burns, Sa’ed carried his son, four year old Ahmad, outside the house. Riham grabbed a blanket, she thought that the child, Ali, was in the blanket. But they learned that the child wasn’t in the blanket, but was left inside. She [Riham] began to yell “Where’s Ali?!” Ali was was burning. She saw him burn. She begged her family to bring her burned baby to her. At that time no one was able to enter the house because the fire was so big. By the time the fire brigade had arrived and put out the fire, and we finally got inside, we witnessed the horrific sight. We saw Ali completely burned, his whole body covered in burns and nothing we can do to save him. Riham went to sleep wishing her baby sweet dreams and they came and burned a family, sound asleep.

‘I’m not a debater’

Interview0 Comments

Trump tells ABC News that he is not a debater.

These politicians, I always say, are all talk no action. They debate all the time. I don’t debate, I build. I’ve created tremendous jobs, I’ve created a great company. Maybe my whole life is a debate in a way, but the fact is I’m not a debater, and they are. With that being said, I look forward to it, we’ll see what happens…I don’t think I’m going to be throwing punches. I’m not looking to attack.

On his strong tone:

The tone has to be tougher. If we’re going to stop ISIS, if we’re going to clean up the border and stop what’s happening at the border which is a disaster. I have no doubt that [strong tone] works. I have absolutely no doubt. When you see the other side chopping off heads, waterboarding doesn’t sound very severe.

Aiken discusses Trump

Makes Statement0 Comments

Aiken says people should not count Trump out:

I don’t think anybody should discount him. Nobody thought that we would see him in the position he is in right now. He is certainly the frontrunner with no signs of that fading… I think he has a really great opportunity — even if he doesn’t win the Republican nomination — to do something I think the country has needed for a long time, which is to try to break this stranglehold of the two-party system. I kind of hope he decides to stick with it and maybe give people another option outside of the Republicans and Democrats.

Illegal lion kill accusation

Accusation0 Comments

Zimbabwe accuses Seski of illegally killing a lion. The wildlife authority says Seski killed the animal — without approval — with a bow and arrow on land where it was not allowed. A Zimbabwean landowner, who conducted the hunt, was arrested and is assisting police with their investigation. Although Seski added his name to a government database when he arrived in Zimbabwe, he was not granted permission to hunt lion. The wildlife authority:

When hunters come into the country they fill a document stating their personal details, the amount they have paid for the hunt, the number of animals to be hunted, the species to be hunted and the area and period where that hunt is supposed to take place. The American conducted his hunt in an area where lion hunting is outlawed. The landowner who helped him with the hunt also did not have a quota for lion hunting.

Cecil, Jericho not related

Makes Statement0 Comments

Contrary to earlier reports, MacDonald, director of the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at Oxford, says Jericho is not the brother of Cecil the Lion.

They were not related, though their bond was one close to brotherhood. Male lions often form what are termed co-operative ‘coalitions’ with unrelated males in order to better compete with other males for territories and prides.

Jericho is currently caring for and defending Cecil’s cubs.

We better watch out as one day police might accuse us of attacking with our penis or buttock. We have come to this rather odd method to tell the world how ridiculous it is.

Claims Cecil covered more that Dawabsheh

Makes Statement0 Comments

Galloway claims the media is paying more attention to the death of Cecil the Lion than that of Ali Dawabsheh who was killed in an arson attack.

There has been a great deal more coverage of the savage killing of Cecil the lion than there will be of the murder of baby Ali in Palestine.

Ali was burned to death by illegal Israeli settlers on West Bank. Nobody in power gives a damn. After all his name ain’t Cecil…#Palestine.

Stonewall interview

Interview0 Comments

Emmerich discusses the difficulties he faced in filming the gay rights drama Stonewall:

It was a huge challenge to make this movie, and if I had not absolutely wanted it, it would not have happened… It was an uphill battle, but we finally did it.

The film is shot in Montreal.

We wanted to do it in New York on location, and that failed miserably because it was so expensive.

Of the diverse crowd the film depicts:

I think we represented it very well. We have drag queens, lesbians, we have everything in the film because we wanted to portray a broader image of what ‘gay’ means.

Cosby producer breaks silence

Makes Statement0 Comments

Werner speaks about Cosby and his legacy:

The legacy of the show is obviously very important to me because the show was a groundbreaking show and it portrayed a middle-class African-American family in a very positive way. It had a lot of stories that resonated with families because people watched it together. Obviously it’s a challenging time for Bill Cosby and a challenging time for the show, but I’m hoping that people will still be able to watch the show and identify with the Huxtables.

Lawyer: ‘Women have responsibility’

Interview0 Comments

Cosby’s layer, Pressley, says it is the responsibility of a sexual assault victim to report it and create evidence of the crime. She says such evidence does not exist in the case against Cosby.

The only way for a woman to get the justice that she seeks — and that, if her allegation is true, that she deserves — is to come forward [soon after the crime]. And even if the reasons that the women did not do that are legitimate ones, what cannot happen — in my opinion, in the United States — is that 40 years later there is a persecution tantamount to a witch hunt where there was no prosecution timely and there was no civil suit timely. And there’s not any testimony or any accusation from any of these women that Mr. Cosby in any way bound them, gagged them, prevented them from coming forward and saying whatever their truth was at the time. That’s not what happened.

Part number from Boeing777

Makes Statement0 Comments

A Malaysian official says a part number (657 BB) on a piece of aircraft wing found in the Indian Ocean confirms the object is from a Boeing 777.

From the part number, it is confirmed that it is from a Boeing 777 aircraft. This information is from MAS (Malaysia Airlines). They have informed me…This could be the convincing evidence that MH370 went down in the Indian Ocean.

The recovered object will be flown to a testing site in France near the city of Toulouse for analysis by aviation authorities and could reach there by Saturday.
