A district attorney says Bland’s death is being treated like a murder investigation. The Texas Rangers and the FBI are investigating her death.

Ban urges calm

Makes Statement0 Comments

UN Secretary General Ban presses Burundian authorities to ensure elections are carried out peacefully.

[The pause in the inter-Burundian dialogue] took place without agreement being reached on a range of issues that would have contributed to the creation of a climate conducive to the holding of credible and peaceful elections, as contained in the relevant recommendations of the EAC and the African Union.

Call Trump a ‘jackass’

Interview0 Comments

In an interview with CNN, Graham defends McCain and criticizes Trump:

John’s my friend. He’s not a perfect person. He was tortured for five and a half years. When you ask Trump, ‘Do you know what he went through in jail?’ ‘No, it doesn’t matter.’ Yeah, it does matter. It really does matter…I don’t care if he drops out. Stay in the race, just stop being a jackass…This is the beginning of the end of Donald Trump.

Sen. Lindsey Graham: Donald Trump is a 'jackass'

Governors increase security

Makes Statement0 Comments

Governors in several states are boosting security for National Guard recruiters and all military institutions by arming National Guardsman and other employees. Oklahoma Governor Fallin:

It is painful enough when we lose members of our armed forces when they are sent in harm’s way, but it is unfathomable that they should be vulnerable for attack in our own communities. For that reason, I want to make sure that our National Guardsmen are authorized to arm themselves at our military facilities.

Governor Scott of Florida:

Recruiting centers could be targets and that’s why I want the National Guard moved until officials are comfortable that they will be safe. We’ve got to understand that, you know, we have people in our country that want to harm the military. They need to be safe and they need to be armed.

Governor Abbot of Texas:

After the recent shooting in Chattanooga, it has become clear that our military personnel must have the ability to defend themselves against these type of attacks on our own soil,’’ Abbot said. ‘‘Arming the National Guard at these bases will not only serve as a deterrent to anyone wishing to do harm to our service men and women, but will enable them to protect those living and working on the base.

Similar actions are being taken in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Indiana while other states are currently reviewing their security policies.

Support strut probably caused failure

Makes Statement0 Comments

Musk says a support strut holding one of the helium tanks likely fractured near a bolt attach point, and wanted to move to the top of the Falcon 9’s second stage. Several helium tanks, each pressurized to about 5,500 pounds per square inch, are mounted inside the rocket’s second stage liquid oxygen tank. The helium is routed through the second stage’s Merlin engine, where the helium warms up and injected into the rocket’s propellant tanks to pressurize the stage as the launcher burns fuel, keeping the tanks structurally sound. Musk:

It may seem sort of counterintuitive that, as the rocket’s accelerating, that something immersed in the tank would actually want to go up more, but that’s basically what happened. The buoyancy increases proportionate to the G-loading. At approximately 3.2 Gs, this strut holding down one of the helium bottles appears to have snapped, and as a result, releasing a lot of helium into the upper stage oxygen tank and causing an over-pressure event quite quickly…Within the course of a second, this caused enough helium to be released, we believe, to over-pressurize the liquid oxygen tank in the upper stage. You don’t really need to release a lot of helium because there’s only about 2 percent gaseous volume in the stage because the upper stage propellant is not being consumed.

Comments on viral photo

Makes Statement0 Comments

Smith downplays his actions:

I have been somewhat surprised by how this photo has taken off and gone viral around the world. Our men and women in uniform are on the front lines every day helping people — regardless of the person’s skin color, nationality or beliefs. As law enforcement officers, service is at the heart of what we do. I believe this photo captures who we are in South Carolina and represents what law enforcement is all about. I am proud to serve this great state, and I hope this photo will be a catalyst for people to work to overcome some of the hatred and violence we have seen in our country in recent weeks.

Cyberattack on police

Makes Statement0 Comments

Police departments across Canada are hit by cyber attacks as Anonymous takes revenge on the police for shooting an activist, in a case of mistaken identity. Its goal is to uncover the name of the police officer who killed the Dawson Creek activist

If Canadian police was as brave as Canadian nurses, they could deal with people with knives without hiding behind bullets. Anonymous will not stand idly by while our own are cut down. We will most certainly avenge one of our own when they are cut down in the streets, protesting the earth-wrecking environmental policies of the Canadian government, the group said.

Makes Statement0 Comments

50 Cent calls AT&T “racist” in posts on his widely-followed Twitter and Instagram accounts. He says AT&T wants to keep “urban friendly” programming off its lineup.

Man Im sorry I have to say this, but AT&T is racist they have had issues in the past and here we go again. 500,000 homes will not be able to view the next episode of POWER…When this was happening they were saying they had the STARZ and other networks that created programming targeting multiple ethnicity’s now I guess (THERE NOT F–KING WITH N—-S).SMH…Change your cable package from AT&T to anything else. It’s 2015 and these people are still racist. They are dropping all channels that are considered urban friendly.

AT&T:

Starz and their paid talent can spin up whatever they like, but the bottom line is we’re NOT going to negotiate a deal that is bad for customers. In these negotiations, our customers are all that matter to us.

Netanyahu on Iran Agreement

Makes Statement0 Comments

Prime Minister Netanyahu continues to verbally oppose the Iran Nuclear Agreement. He states that as the leader of the only Jewish state, he feels it is his duty to make sure that state remains protected and safe against current and potential future danger.

I have great respect for our intelligence services, they’re the best in the world, Israel’s, the U.S. And UK. Yet, all of three of us didn’t see for a long time the nuclear bunkers, we didn’t see the Syrian work on a nuclear reactor that was almost operational when we discovered it.

Turned down MI2, got LOTR, X-Men

Interview0 Comments

McKellen says he was only free to work on Lord of the Rings because he turned down a role in Mission Impossible II:

It’s ridiculous that I’ve gotten to play both Gandalf [in the Lord of the Rings films] and Magneto [in the X-Men films]. How did that come about? One would have been enough. But two? And [it] also nearly might not have happened. I got offered a part in Mission: Impossible II with Tom Cruise, but they wouldn’t let me see the whole script because I might have spilled the beans. I only got my scenes. I couldn’t judge from reading just those scenes what the script was like. So I said no, and my agent said, ‘You cant say no to working with Tom Cruise!’ and I said, ‘I think I will.’ The next day, Bryan Singer asked me to play Magneto and then Peter Jackson asked me to play Gandalf, and I said yes to both. Meanwhile, Mission Impossible was put off, put off, put off. And if I had decided to do that, I wouldn’t have been in X-Men and I wouldn’t have been in Lord of the Rings. It’s all about luck – being there at the right time and ready for it.

Abdulazeez’s family blame depression for turning their son’s actions. The family also say he was taking antidepressant medications at the time of the shooting.

More details revealed

Further details of Cosby’s four-day questioning for the Constand case deposition reveal Cosby describing how he seduced a young model by showing interest in her father’s cancer and promising women mentorship and career advice before pushing them for sex. He also acknowledges he paid off women to keep his wife, Camille, from finding out about his philandering. At one point, he is rebuked by the plaintiff’s attorney for his jocular attitude.

Lawyer: I think you’re making light of a very serious situation.

Cosby: That may very well be.

Victim’s attorney, Allred:

Cosby’s testimony demonstrates how deceptive, manipulative and disgusting (he is). It is no wonder that he fought to keep this deposition, which reveals his revolting predatory conduct, hidden from public view. But the truth is out now and it will never be hidden again.

FBI, DHS: motive unclear

Makes Statement0 Comments

Homeland Security and the FBI issue a joint statement:

We have no information at this time indicating that this incident was either inspired, directed, or assisted by individuals associated with an identified designated foreign terrorist organization. However, the FBI investigation into his activities while overseas and the nature and extent of his affiliation with FTOs (foreign terrorist organizations) is ongoing. We have no information to date to suggest that these trips [over the past year to the Middle East] were associated with any nefarious or violent extremist activities

Authorities seek to determine if the shooter was inspired by ISIS or a similar organization or was a “lone wolf,” attack, where Abdulazeez acted on his own. U.S. Attorney Killian says that although the shootings are currently being investigated as “domestic terrorism”, they are not as of yet officially classified as an act of terrorism.
