Criticizes Smith, Sheeran’s spontaneity

Morrissey laments the dearth of spontaneous, uncontrolled musicians, citing Smith and Sheeran as examples:

There are no bands or singers who become successful without overwhelming marketing. There are no surprise success stories. Everything is stringently controlled, obvious and predictable and has exactly the same content. So, we are now in the era of marketed pop stars, which means that the labels fully control the charts, and consequently the public has lost interest. It’s very rare that a record label does something for the good of music. Thus we are force-fed such as Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, which at least means that things can’t possibly get any worse. It is sad, though. There’s no spontaneity now, and it all seems to be unsalvageable.

FBI failed to register gun purchase

In a meeting at FBI headquarters, Comey says failures in the gun purchase screening system enabled Roof to acquire the weapon used in the Charleston attack. Roof’s arrest for possession of narcotics in February — a felony charge — should have surfaced on criminal databases and prevented him from buying a weapon at a gun store. Comey indicates that the data was not properly entered in federal criminal justice computer systems, or had been mishandled by an analyst with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Comey:

This case rips all of our hearts out, but the thought that an error on our part is connected to a gun this person used to slaughter these people is very painful to us.

First signs of Pluto’s geological features

Tantalizing signs of geology on Pluto are revealed in this image from New Horizons taken on July 9, 2015 from 3.3 million miles (5.4 million kilometers) away. New Horizons takes this photo 5.4 million km (3.3 million miles) from Pluto which starts to show distinct geological features on the surface.

We’re close enough now that we’re just starting to see Pluto’s geology. Among the structures tentatively identified in this new image are what appear to be polygonal features; a complex band of terrain stretching east-northeast across the planet, approximately 1,000 miles long; and a complex region where bright terrains meet the dark terrains of the whale.

Say Louisiana is most pro-life State

Speaking at the National Right to Life Convention, Jindal says he has signed many abortion restrictions in his two terms, making Louisiana is the “most pro-life state.” He compares the Supreme Court’s decision on same-sex marriage to its decision on Roe vs. Wade:

The left wants to take God out of the public square. If the court is just going to be a public opinion poll … we should just get rid of it…You’ve got folks going after business, individuals, churches and pastors for their sincerely held religious beliefs. . . . When Hillary Clinton or President Obama talk about religious expression all they mean is that for an hour or two a week in church you can say what you want. That’s not religious freedom. Religious freedom is the ability to live our lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week according to our sincerely held beliefs.

The next time we see this part of Pluto at closest approach, a portion of this region will be imaged at about 500 times better resolution than we see today. It will be incredible.

Painkiller warnings strengthened

FDA strengthens warning levels for painkillers that increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks, further warning individuals with a history of heart attacks, hypertension, or other heart disease to be cautious about using non-steroidal inflammatory drugs (NSAID). This is in response to recent data that show the increase in the risk of strokes and heart attacks following short-term NSAID use. FDA requires drug makers to update warnings on common products that contain NSAIDs such as Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other products used for the management of pain, fever, and inflammation. The one exception to the warning is aspirin.

ET releases surveillance camera images of Jenner’s crash. The images, shot from two angles by security cameras on a passing public bus, appear to show Jenner’s Cadillac Escalade, which was towing a trailer carrying an off-road vehicle, hitting both a white Lexus, driven by Howe, and a black Prius. Howe collides with a black Hummer, and dies in the crash. Jenner’s attorney:

As part of a reasonable investigation, we have seen parts of an MTA bus video, and when all of the photographic and video evidence of this tragic accident, and all available witness information, is made available to us, we will be in a better position to make fair comments.

Hollywood Studios statue removed

Cosby statue imageA bronze bust of Cosby that has been in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza at Hollywood Studios since 1994 is removed. Traitz started a Change.org petition seven months ago to have the statue removed from Disney. Her niece:

He has no place in Disney. It’s not a place for a predator. To see the bust of Bill Cosby as a hero on a pedestal in Disney after the family history, and we know of what had happened to my aunt all those years ago, it’s hurtful.

Defends Cosby

Goldberg defends Cosby on The View, compared Cosby’s case to the boys of the Duke lacrosse team:

Here’s the deal: This is The View and that was my opinion. Not any of you threatening me or telling me you’re coming after me because you don’t like what I said is going to change the fact that no one has convicted him, he has not been arrested, and the bottomline is that’s the law–innocent, until proven guilty…We all have a very important role to play when it comes to abuse and rape. If it’s true the person has to be taken to nth degree of the world and punished; no one here thinks rape is good, no one here thinks rapists are fun… so don’t come after me like that because I’m sick of this bull.

Thanks supporters

In her first statement since she was fired from the site, Taylor thanks her supporters (full text):

I’ve had some time to think about how to respond to the extraordinary kindness and support you’ve shown me. And here it is: I’ll never forget my time at reddit. You allowed me to be a part of some of the greatest conversations of our time, and it was an honor to be your ambassador. I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all of you who have reached out.

Thank you for everything you’ve given me. From your messages to your artwork, I am deeply moved and grateful beyond words, and your encouragement has meant more than you’ll ever know. I’ve been incredibly humbled and honored to serve this community, and I truly believe all voices matter. Your voices matter. You proved that this weekend. And really, this weekend wasn’t about me. It was about you. And if I know one thing about this community, it’s that you’ll continue making your voices heard. And that’s an inspiration.

Responds to critics

Kjellberg responds to online commenters who criticized his earnings, by recounting his humble beginnings, working at a hot dog stand after dropping out of college and making YouTube videos in his spare time.

The fact that I could make videos was so much important to me than doing a job that was sort of less prestigious….Money is the topic I purposely tried to avoid for the five years I’ve been making videos, because I just feel like it’s not important to anyone. I just want to make entertaining videos. Don’t get me wrong, though, I don’t hate money. I’m not going to pretend it doesn’t matter to me, because it matters to everyone…I think that’s what cool about YouTube. Anyone can do this. I do work a tremendous amount of work. Ask my girlfriend. And if you worked this hard, you could do it too.

Lets Talk About Money.

Trump says Clinton is “the worst secretary of state in the history of our nation.”

The world blew up around us

He aslo criticizes her stance on immigration:

[She’ll] let everybody come in… killers, criminals, drug dealers…Hillary’s weak on immigration. I might be divisive on immigration, but she’s weak on immigration, which is far worse…If you listen to Hillary, she is so weak on immigration, we will have a crime rate like you’ve never seen.

‘I Will Win the Latino Vote’

Trump tells NBC News that he has nothing to apologise for and that he will win the support of Latinos because of his record creating jobs.

I have a great relationship with the Mexican people. I have many people working for me – look at the job in Washington – I have many legal immigrants working with me. And many of them come from Mexico. They love me, I love them. And I’ll tell you something, if I get the nomination, I’ll win the Latino vote.

He says he will build an “impenetrable” wall between the United States and Mexico and that he will “make” the Mexican government foot the bill.

Mexico’s making a fortune off the United States. I would get them to pay for the wall. Believe me.
