Film Appearance0 Comments

In this comedy drama based on a memoir of the same name by Beth Raymer, Willis plays a professional bookie called Dink Heimowitz. After hiring former Las Vegas cocktail waitress Beth – played by Rebecca Hall – as his assistant, he discovers that his new employee is a natural gambler. When Dink’s enthusiasm over Beth shakes up his marriage, Beth is fired. Directed by Stephen Frears.

I wanted to work with Stephen Frears. I like movies. I like acting. I like trying to do stuff that I’m afraid of. Yes, I still like trying stuff. I love this film. Acting is a peculiar thing. Have you ever seen these films where I shoot guns all the time? Well there’s no shooting of guns in this film. We were kind to everyone, even the hamster.

It was a very life changing role for me personally as well, so I feel very affectionate towards it. And it’s exciting to be able to follow a character for such a long period of time. It’s rare to get that chance.

The Iron Lady

Broadbent plays Denis Thatcher, Margaret Thatcher’s husband, in this biographical drama directed by Phyllida Lloyd. An elderly Margaret Thatcher, struggling with dementia, narrates her life story by sharing memories with the imagined presence of her deceased husband. Thatcher’s life unfold from girlhood to her years as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Co-starring Meryl Streep.

I’m nothing like Denis, physically. It’s much easier for Meryl to look like Maggie Thatcher than it is for me to look like Denis! I quite liked getting the hair right and the teeth right. But I still don’t look like Denis! It’s helpful for me to make that journey to get a bit of distance from myself and try to get under his skin a bit.

I needed much more breath than I have, after all of my expensive drama school training. I couldn’t keep up with her. … She gave one speech when she was 65 that I couldn’t have done when I was 30 years old, fresh out of drama school. Just the breath. As an actor, you’re looking at it and going, “Just the breath.” It’s fantastic.

Well I’ve been a big fan of Mark Wahlberg for a really long time and I was really excited to work with him. I’ve never played a character quite like that before.

Bag of Bones

Film Appearance0 Comments

Pierce Brosnan stars in the A&E Network special four hour mini series of King’s Bag of Bones. Directed by Mick Garris, the film premieres as two separate episodes of two hours long. 3.37 million viewers tune in to watch Brosnan portray a grieving novelist who secludes himself in a lake house after the death of his wife. Durring filming, Garris made sure that he and King stayed in constant contact because Garris wanted to make sure that he portrayed the writer’s work precisely.

I sent him dailies regularly and we did talk, but he’s pretty much a guy who likes to let you do what you’ll do. He learned, a long time ago, of the frustrations of attaching yourself emotionally to a film made from your book that may not turn out well. He’s been able to successfully maintain a balance between the books staying what they are and the movies being what they are, whether he’s involved or not.

Catch .44

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this indie crime drama, Willis plays crime lord Mel, who sends a team of three strippers to make one of his deals. The girls spend much of the movie driving around town and shooting. They encounter a murderer on the way, played by Forest Whitaker. First time director Aaron Harvey says:

Catch .44 was set up and financed completely outside of the studio system. Even though there were some big actors and a great crew that came from the studio world, the film itself was actually a relatively small independent film that was privately financed by several investors that the producers had brought to the table.
