Just going back to the old days when I was into going to church and remembering that there were–as a Protestant, which is Catholic light–once again the idea of somebody who could really advise and has something to offer. That’s why I think for that it was just remembering those guys that I kind of grew up with in the Episcopal church, which is “There is no purgatory, just spiritual escrow.”

Damages
Close plays Patty Hewes, a powerful, successful attorney and head of her own law firm, in this drama from creators Glenn and Todd Kessler and Daniel Zelman. Co-starring Rose Byrne and Tate Donovan.
I think she was constantly challenged. For me, Patty was a woman whose rage and pain – and her hatred of bullies – had turned her into this incredible litigator. The grey side of things – the fact that she didn’t always play by the rules as far as winning is concerned – that never changed.

McClane engages the help of a young hacker, played by Matt Farrell, to stop the nationwide destruction before it’s too late. On working with director Len Wiseman:
We both had similar ideas about and similar goals as to the kind of Die Hard we wanted to make. It’s really easy to sit here and talk about the film now because it really did turn out great. …The film rocks. It’s actually one of my favorite Die Hards.

…it was fun. I’ve known him before because I know his kids so it was cool to get to work with him. They were like he’s going to do a cameo in it and I was like that’s awesome. He’s just a great guy. He’s a nice guy and he’s an amazing actor.
1408
Mikael Håfström adapts the King short story, 1408, into a feature film starring John Cusack as a horror novelist who made his career by investigating potentially haunted houses. Via an annonymous tip, Cusack spends a night at New York City’s Dolphin Hotel in the infamous Room 1408, although he is strongly advised against it by the motels manager, played by Samuel L. Jackson. The film grossed $132 million after being produced on a budget of $25 million. Like many of the film adaptations of his work, King was less than thrilled about the Swedish directors work.
[To adapt my work into film] you have to concentrate on character – and throw out the notion that you need a lot of blood spurting and eyeballs flying. That’s not what fear is about.
Ocean’s Thirteen
Pitt reprises his role as Rusty Ryan in this final part of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Trilogy. Gardner begins a relationship with a future employee at her law firm, but he is dragged back into his career as a district attorney after a failed attempt to try a man for murder. Co-starring Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Gosling, and David Strathairn.
It was the film rather than the part in this case. I said after Pride and Prejudice that I’d like to do a thriller because it was the kind of thing that I haven’t done and then this came along. I’d seen Primal Fear, which was Gregory Hoblit’s most famous film, and I was so disconcerted by that film that I thought, ‘My goodness, this is something that he’s going to do really really well.’ Aand I just wanted to be part of it.

Shia came in and completely won me over in the very first scene. He was so dynamic and his eyes are so expressive. I thought, he is really going to be accessible. The guys are going to like him and the girls are going to like him because he’s the kind of guy you are going to root for ….
Blades of Glory
Ferrell plays a competitive ice skater named Chazz Michael Michaels in this comedy film directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck. On his chemistry with Heder:
We met in the parking lot of Pickwick Ice Rink in Burbank. It was like, ‘Hey, nice to meet you.’ ‘Yeah, you too.’ ‘This should be fun, right?’ ‘It’s going to be hard, huh?’ ‘You don’t know how to skate, do you?’ ‘No.’ ‘I don’t either.’ ‘Okay, I’ll see you later.’ (Laughing) That was kind of it.
