Breakout

The band releases Breakout, from There Is Nothing Left To Lose. Grohl:

Breakout started off almost as a joke, just a play on the word and taking the piss out of your typical tortured romance love story. It’s supposed to seem kind of ridiculous because I can’t imagine anyone wanting to break off a relationship just because they have acne.

Music

The artist releases her song Music from her album with the same title. The artist says that the songs on this album reflect her life.

Everything in life moves in cycles… there’s a period where you’re quiet, and there’s a period where you explode. In the time leading up to Ray of Light, I was in a quiet space – making lots of discoveries and going through lots of changes. It was an introspective, questioning time. Then, almost without warning, I felt like I needed to explode. I didn’t feel the need to be so introspective. I felt like dancing. And that’s reflected in these songs.

Spears releases her single Oops!… I Did it Again from her same titled album. The video’s director, Nigel Dick, says that Spears wanted a certain look in the video. Spears:

I want to be in a red jumpsuit. I want to have a really cute spaceman, but there can’t be any rockets.

Dick:

There was another catsuit, actually, which was fantastic, which I loved, and the night before, I was told that Britney hired this guy that worked with Michael Jackson. And so we’re going to use that catsuit. So that’s the catsuit.

How Do You Like Me Now?!

Keith releases his single, How Do You Like Me Now?!, from his album with the same name. Keith co-wrote the song with Chuck Cannon.

Chuck and I have had so much success together. We started writing this song right after we finished another one. We got through the first verse, and I was just blown away by it. Chuck thought it was kinda okay, but when you’ve just got a little piece of a song, it sometimes doesn’t stick out when you’ve got a finished product layin’ there. I kept telling him this was gonna be a big song if we could just nail it. It took us about six months to get back to it after that. But we finally did get back together – and nailed it.

He Didn’t Have To Be

The artist releases He Didn’t Have To Be, from his album, Who Needs Pictures.

He Didn’t Have To Be was probably the most life-changing three minutes that I’ve ever written, because I really believe we wouldn’t be sitting here anymore talking. Maybe we’d be sitting here with me having written a #1 song for somebody else, but I don’t think I’d still have a record deal without that song. It broke the ice for me with radio. It was like you could see potential in it, and that’s an important thing. I was really lucky, it wasn’t like we knew what we were doing. I just happened [to write] that with my best friend from the bottom of my heart about his situation.
