Statement about Lebron James
Wade releases a statement on Lebron James’s decision to leave the Miami Heat and go back to Cleveland:
As a friend and a teammate, I am sad to see my brother LeBron leave to begin a new journey. In 2010, we decided to come together all for one goal — to win championships and we succeeded. We were friends when we first joined the league and created an unbreakable bond the past four years. Our collaboration will always be very special to me both personally and professionally.
Released from rehab

Kadri wins stage eight
Blel Kadri wins stage eight today, and he is the first Frenchman to win a stage in this year’s race. Alberto Cantador finishes two minutes behind Kadri to take second place. Stage eight starts in Tomblaine and finishes in Gérardmer La Mauselaine, and is just over 100 miles in length (161 km).
It’s an amazing feeling that I have right now. I’m delighted for myself and for the team as well. The main aim for the team was to win a stage — we’ve done that now — and to get the polka-dot jersey too, that’s important as well.
Volunteers sent to help troops
4,00o volunteers are dispatched to help bolster the troops fighting the Sunni militants in Ramadi, a small city west of Baghdad. Gen. Rasheed Flayeh, the commander of operations in Anbar province, says 2,500 of the reinforcements arrived yesterday in Ramadi, and the rest are expected to arrive today. The majority of the volunteers are Shiites answering a call from the country’s top Shiite cleric asking for help in defending the country from the militants who have already seized control of much of northern and western Iraq.
EU names latest sanctions
The European Union extends sanctions to cover 11 leaders of the pro-Moscow rebellion in eastern Ukraine. Targets of the asset freeze and travel ban include two Russian spin doctors, Alexander Borodai, prime minister of the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic, and his counterpart in the Luhansk People’s Republic, Marat Bashirov, both formerly worked for Russian tycoons. Also on the new list were two men identified as rebel military leaders: Nikolai Kozitsyn, commander of Cossack forces, and Alexei Mosgovy, responsible for military training. The names were published today in the EU’s Official Journal; it brought the total of people affected by the EU’s Ukraine-related sanctions to 72, as well as two companies whose EU-based assets have been ordered frozen.
Still training
Tebow is still training for the NFL despite not being on a team. The ex college and former NFL star is back in L.A. to train for NFL tryouts this fall. His regimen will focus on his throwing motion which dispels any rumors that the quarterback will change positions.
I will remain in relentless pursuit of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback
YogDiscovery
Yogscast member Mark Turpin makes a Reddit post announcing YogDiscovery, a new plan for Yogscast members to get paid by game developers to cover their games. The developers agree to give them a small portion of the extra revenue driven by the Yogscast if they make videos about their game. He says this is a way for YouTubers to guarantee income from covering unpopular games:
Our entertainers earn a livelihood from advertising directly based on how many views they get. This motivates them to create content around games that are popular – e.g. Minecraft or Garry’s Mod…YogDiscovery allows them to partially negate the financial risk from playing games that aren’t guaranteed views and be more genuine about playing the games they want to play.
Addresses LULAC in NYC
Obama addresses the League of United Latin American Citizens, the oldest Hispanic organization in the United States, at the LULAC Convention in New York City. Jennifer Lopez was in the building at the time introducing Los Jets, a reality show that she is involved in. The group asked Lopez to stop in for a quick appearance with the First Lady, and she agreed to do so. The two embraced on stage and took time to take a “selfie.”

After France bans free shipping of books, Amazon raises it shipping price from free to $0.01 Euros, which is one penny. In an FAQ for their shoppers, Amazon explains:
We are unfortunately no longer allowed to offer free deliveries for book orders. We have therefore fixed delivery costs at one centime per order containing books and dispatched by Amazon to systematically guarantee the lowest price for your book orders.
Cuts in line at restaurant
After finishing his speech at Paramount theater, Obama visits Franklin Barbecue, a very popular restaurant in the area that usually has a line of customers waiting at the door daily before it opens. Obama cuts to the front of the line to place a takeout order for himself and the party traveling with him. To make up for cutting in the line, Obama buys food for a group of customers. One customer, Bruce Finstad, was in line with his daughter and took the President up on his offer and orders three pounds of beef, two pounds of ribs, a half-pound of sausage and turkey, as well another half-pound each of sausage and turkey for his wife and daughter. Obama responds:
Hold on now. How many folks are you guys feeding? Just kidding.
After first pulling out a wad of $20 bills, Obama pays the $300 tab with a credit card.
Returns to Cleveland
James decides to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. In a Sports Illustrated story, James says:
When I left Cleveland, I was on a mission. I was seeking championships, and we won two. But Miami already knew that feeling. Our city hasn’t had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question. But what’s most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.
Miami Heat managing general partner Micky Arison posts on Twitter:
I am shocked & disappointed in today’s news. However I will never forget what Lebron brought us for 4 years. Thanks for memories.
Kurdish foreign minister removed
Iraqi officials report Kurdish Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has been removed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. This occurred as Kurds launched a boycott following comments made by al-Maliki linking ISIS extremists and Baathists to the Kurdish Regional Government in Irbil. The Kurds strongly dispute al-Maliki’s allegations, claiming he wants to scapegoat the Kurds for his failures in northern Iraq and divert attention from how ISIS militants have poured into Iraq and waged warfare against the government.
Matteo Trentin wins stage seven
In a race that was too close to call, freeze frame photographs show Matteo edged out Peter Sagan to win stage seven. The course begins in Epernay and ends in Nancy and is 145.7 miles (234.5 km) long. Matteo says:
This win is for Cav and for the team. It’s beautiful because it came after six days of bad luck.
Book slips from #1 spot
Clinton’s book, Hard Choices, is knocked out of its number one spot on the bestseller’s list by Edward Klein’s Blood Feud: The Clintons vs. the Obamas. Klein’s book is about tensions between Bill and Hillary Clinton and the Obamas. Hard Choices still leads the list in Hardcover Nonfiction, but trails when print and e-books are combined. Nielsen Bookscan figures show Carson has sold 162,000 books, while Clinton has sold 177,000.
Sues over heroin video
Jolie takes legal action against the Daily Mail over a video of her from the 1990’s that they published online. The newspaper claims the 16-minute video, originally published by The National Enquirer, shows Jolie when she was a heroin user. According to an article published in Daily Mail on July 8, 2014, the video was taken by Franklin Meyer. Meyer claims he was Jolie’s drug dealer when she lived in New York. Although Jolie has discussed her drug problems with reporters in the past, the Times reports that she views the Daily Mail‘s publication of the video as a “gross violation of her privacy.”

Barcelona transfer
Liverpool announces that Suarez, the player involved in the biting incident, is going to Barcelona and has signed a five-year contract with the team. Spanish football and Bleacher Report UK expert Guillem Balague reports the deal is worth £64 million. The Reds confirm this on their official website:
Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield. Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.
Suarez released a statement on Liverpool’s website
It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city. But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters. I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife’s family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.
Uranium theift
The militant group takes a uranium compound from a university lab in Mosul. Officials tell CNN that the compound that was taken is a small amount that is not of weapon grade, and they expressed minimal concern. A letter from Iraq’s U.N. ambassador about the uranium compounds asks for help as the country struggles with a deadly insurgency:
To stave off the threat of their use by terrorists in Iraq or abroad.
Confirms new album
The artist partners with Sony Music’s RCA Records to distribute his new material and help with radio promotion. The album, as yet untitled, will be out around Black Friday. He says that the type of content he is known for, western fare like Rodeo and Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old), will be well-represented.
If you had to put it in a box for me, it’d be Garth Music. You’re damn straight we’ll do cowboys songs on this album.

It is currently possible to get distance information with Maps via Directions, My Maps, or Maps Labs functions, but the new feature promises to make it easier to access the data.
