Tavis Smiley interview

Interview0 Comments

Cash discusses her newest album, The River & The Thread, and how it’s different from her previous work in this interview for PBS.

It’s like you work hard to reach a level that you feel you’re at the top of your game, and I felt that we were both at the top of our game in making this record, and songwriting. Also it’s the most old-fashioned thing I could do. I made a concept album. There’s a single narrative that goes through this album. They’re all songs about the South, the deep, dark, mystical, beautiful, strange South.

Hale talks about his role as Gary Walsh in season three of the HBO series Veep:

All he wants to do is please Selina. That is his life goal. In this season he thinks, I need to exercise some different muscles. I’m in my 40s. I can do more. I can carry more than just a bag. He tries and it does not end well.

I was tirelessly motivated, because I felt very clear about what I wanted to do. I didn’t fully understand what it meant to be an actor, but I knew it was someone who gets to play different characters, gets to pretend to be in different worlds, and gets to make people laugh or feel. I’m sure there was some sort of validation, where the attention is on me and I can make people laugh; that’s normal kid stuff. But then it started to gestate into something more complicated and exciting and very fulfilling.

Because we’re all liberated by this speech. We’re all liberated by the struggle, and that liberation can extend in many places. When 9/11, first anniversary of 9/11 happened, the English words spoken besides the desperately sad list of the dead? The Gettysburg Address. Has nothing to do with 9/11 but everything, because words, as you know as well as anybody I know on this planet, are medicine, are medicine.

Conan O’Brien interview

Interview0 Comments

Seacrest interviews O’Brien during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions him about the possibility of him replacing David Letterman on The Late Show.

I think people are thinking about it the wrong way. Right now, we have a glut of people more or less my age or a few years younger than me hosting shows. I think if CBS was smart, they’d counter-program. They would go with really, really old or really, really young. So I’m suggesting either Larry King or Beyonce‘s baby, Blue Ivy so I think they’re barking up the wrong tree with me or anyone like me.
