Singapore Central Bank assists corruption probe
Singapore’s central bank is cooperating with Malaysia over a probe into allegations regarding transfers totalling almost $700 million into the Prime Minister’s personal accounts. Malaysian authorities say they are freezing six accounts related to the probe. The Monetary Authority of Singapore:
The Malaysian authorities have launched an investigation into this matter. Singapore will continue to provide our full assistance and share information with the authorities in Malaysia, within the ambit of our laws. In this connection, MAS has been in close contact with the relevant financial institutions.

After July 29, the only things that a user will be able to do through the online method will be to view bankruptcy claims filed by the user and transfer the bankruptcy claims to another person.
Pluto map
NASA releases this map compiled from photos taken between June 27 and July 3 showing the following features along the equator: The long dark area on the left, named “the whale” measures 3,000 km (1,800 miles), above the whale’s tail is a doughnut shaped area measuring 350km (200 miles) across, to the right of the whale’s head is the brightest region, and further to the right are four mysterious dark spots.
‘Validated’ by Cosby’s testimony
Dickinson says she feels “vindicated” by the release of Cosby’s testimony.
It shows that he and all his people knew all along that we were telling the truth. [But] I want an admission of guilt. This is not over until we get a fair judge and jury and he can go under oath and stand on trial under oath for what he did to me. He and his accomplices should have to pay for what they did.
I personally have spoken to a few women who are too embarrassed and scared to come forward. I’ve seen the pain in their eyes. I just want the other women to know that [speaking out] is painful. But it’s the right thing to do for the healing process, which I beg to God will start to kick in on my end. It hasn’t so far.
Back on track
New Horizons resumes normal operations on its main computer. The team determines that the problem was that the main computer was overloaded due to a timing conflict in the spacecraft command sequence. The computer was tasked with receiving a large command load at the same time it was engaged in compressing previous science data. The main computer responded precisely as it was programmed to do, by entering safe mode and switching to the backup computer. Thirty observations were lost during the recovery period, but they did not affect any critical observations.
I’m pleased that our mission team quickly identified the problem and assured the health of the spacecraft. Now – with Pluto in our sights – we’re on the verge of returning to normal operations and going for the gold.
Enters safe mode
At 1:54 pm New Horizons’ autonomous autopilot recognizes a problem, stops communicating with mission control on Earth, switches from the main to the backup computer and puts the probe into safe mode. It then begins to send information to engineers to help diagnose the problem. At 3:15 pm communication is restored. At 4:00 pm the team meets to resolve the problem and restore the probe to its flight plan. The probe is not able to collect science data at this time.
Parents speak on SF policy
Steinle’s parents say that while they respect the immigration sanctuary laws of SF, their daughter wouldn’t have been killed by Sanchez if ICE had been complied with.
We’re here for kate and I think I can speak for my wife when I say its a non issue…It would have been so much better if he were gone and they would have done what they should have done, absolutely, without a guess definitely but that’s not how it is.
Responds to Republican critics
In an interview with Fox news, Trump criticizes Republican opponents who have criticized his recent comments on immigration. On George Pataki:
I know Pataki well, and, you know, he’s a sad figure. He’s got zero in the polls, and he was a terrible governor of New York. Terrible. If he would have run again, he would have failed.
On Marco Rubio:
And, you know, as far as Rubio, he is very weak on immigration, and I have been saying that for a long time about him.
On Jeb Bush:
He’s not a stupid guy, so I don’t assume that he thinks every Mexican crossing the border is a rapist. So he’s doing this to inflame and to incite and to draw attention to his campaign, which seems to be his organizing principle of his campaign, and it doesn’t represent the Republican Party or its values.
Pluto is red-brown
New Horizons’ RALPH instrument confirms that Pluto is reddish brown probably caused by hydrocarbon molecules that are formed when cosmic rays and solar ultraviolet light interact with methane in its atmosphere and on its surface.
Pluto’s reddish color has been known for decades, but New Horizons is now allowing us to correlate the color of different places on the surface with their geology and soon, with their compositions. This will make it possible to build sophisticated computer models to understand how Pluto has evolved to its current appearance.
Deported five times, seven felony convictions
ICE says Sanchez has seven felony convictions and has been deported five times, most recently in 2009. Four of those convictions involved narcotics charges. They also say they had requested San Francisco to detain him in march, but the Sheriff’s Department released him.
Cites SF death
Trump says Steinle’s murder by Sanchez, an undocumented immigrant and a repeat felon who had been deported five times to Mexico, shows that the border must be secured.
This senseless and totally preventable act of violence committed by an illegal immigrant is yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately. This is an absolutely disgraceful situation and I am the only one that can fix it. Nobody else has the guts to even talk about it. That won’t happen if I become President. The American people deserve a wall to protect our jobs, economy and our safety. I am the only candidate who would build it.
Will ‘triage’ AMA requests
Ohanian makes an announcement in regards to Taylor’s removal.
We don’t talk about specific employees, but I do want you to know that I’m here to triage AMA requests in the interim. All AMA inquiries go to AMA@reddit.com where we have a team in place…I posted this on [a mod sub] but I’m reposting here:
We get that losing Victoria has a significant impact on the way you manage your community. I’d really like to understand how we can help solve these problems, because I know r/IAMA thrived before her and will thrive after…We’re prepared to help coordinate and schedule AMAs. I’ve got the inbound coming through my inbox right now and many of the people who come on to do AMAs are excited to do them without assistance (most recently, the noteworthy Channing Tatum AMA).
This is met with harsh criticism and has a total comment score of under -2500.
Path clear
After a detailed search for dust clouds, rings, and other potential hazards, the New Horizons team decides the spacecraft will remain on its original path through the Pluto system instead of making a late course correction to detour around any hazards. Because the probe is traveling at 49,600 km/h (30,800 mph), a particle as small as a grain of rice could be lethal.
We’re breathing a collective sigh of relief knowing that the way appears to be clear. The science payoff will be richer as we gather data from the optimal flight path, as opposed to having to conduct observations from one of the back-up trajectories
Two faces of Pluto
NASA releases photos that show Pluto’s two different faces. The right photo shows a series of four evenly spaced dark spots along the equator. The left photo shows the hemisphere the probe will view as it flies by.
It’s a real puzzle—we don’t know what the spots are, and we can’t wait to find out.
CDC: Don’t kiss chickens
CDC links Salmonella outbreak affecting at least 181 people in 40 states to affectionate behavior between people and live poultry. CDC recommends regularly washing hands from handling poultry, keeping live poultry away from homes, and breastfeeding to protect infants from salmonella.
86 percent of the 95 ill people who were interviewed reported contact with live poultry in the week before their illness bag … [Many] reported kissing or cuddling with their live poultry.
Univision: Trump suit ‘ridiculous’
Univision responds to Trump’s suit:
We just reviewed Mr. Trump’s complaint for the first time, and it is both factually false and legally ridiculous. We will not only vigorously defend the case, but will continue to fight against Mr. Trump’s ongoing efforts to run away from the derogatory comments he made on June 16th about Mexican immigrants. Our decision to end our business relationship with Mr. Trump was influenced solely by our responsibility to speak up for the community we serve.
Trained with museum gunman
After a nationwide search for accomplices that participated in the terrorist attack that killed 38 tourists, investigators detail 38 people and discover that Rezgui trained with the shooters in a previous Tunisian attack. Security official:
The young college student who killed 38 tourists in a Tunisian seaside resort was in a jihadi training camp in western Libya at the same time as the two attackers who hit the National Bardo Museum in March.
Condition worsens
Bobbi Kristina is removed from the hospital, taken off all medications and moved to hospice care, after being taken to Chicago on a medical plane to see specialists. Source:
They too confirmed what Atlanta doctors had been saying that there was no hope. That’s when she was taken off all meds and any artificial means of support. It seems that he [Bobby Brown] had to get a certain amount of confirmation before really letting go. That trip is what convinced him to allow them to take her off her meds and to ‘go naturally
She barely has any signs of life, hardly any vitals. Security has been beefed up and even local law enforcement have been called because the families have been told that death is now imminent and they want to make sure that photographers don’t get pictures of her body being removed.
Practiced prison break
Sweat tells police that he and Matt conducted a practice run of their prison break the night before they disappeared. The night before they broke out, Sweat and Matt went through the tunnels and popped their heads up at a manhole, but decided it wasn’t isolated enough, so they decided to escape from a different manhole instead. DA:
To make a dry run and have the ability to escape, and then go back in, it is a little baffling.
ISIS fight ‘is the struggle of our generation’
In the aftermath of the Tunisia attack, Cameron has stated that the fight against the Islamic State is “the struggle of our generation”. He elaborated on his perspective by stating that:
I think that frankly, we are a target. They have declared war on us, they are attacking our people at home and overseas whether we like it or not… They are attacking our way of life and what we stand for. There are people in Iraq and Syria who are plotting to carry out terrible acts in Britain and elsewhere and as long as ISIL exists in those two countries we are at threat…It’s a battle of our values and our narrative against their values and their narrative. We have to get that right as well as the military end of things…We have to deal with this appalling radical narrative that’s taking over the minds of young people in our country.
Cameron says the UK must have a “full-spectrum response” to the IS threat – including continuing with air strikes. When asked if British troops were needed on the ground, he added:
Our strategy is to build up local armies. It’s much easier to just invade a country… it’s easier and faster, but that has consequences.
