Pycon keynote speech
Graham gives the keynote speech to Pycon, the annual conference of Python programmers. He later reworks the speech as an essay, Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas.
One of the more surprising things I’ve noticed while working on Y Combinator is how frightening the most ambitious startup ideas are. Any one of them could make you a billionaire. That might sound like an attractive prospect, and yet when I describe these ideas you may notice you find yourself shrinking away from them.
He discusses seven ideas: A new search engine, replacing email, replacing universities, movie content on the net, the next Steve Jobs, bringing back Moore’s Law, and automated medical diagnosis.
Game Change
Paulson plays Nicolle Wallace, a senior adviser on John McCain’s presidential campaign, in this drama written for the screen by Danny Strong and directed by Jay Roach. After Sarah Palin is tapped to be the Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican Party, Wallace has much of the responsibility for prepping her public appearances. Her efforts prove futile, however, as the campaign ends in defeat. Co-starring Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Ed Harris.
I’m not a Republican. But my job is to believe what she believed in—to make the case for my candidate, which is what Nicolle did. So, to me, I felt a great deal of responsibility to not screw it up.
Game Change
Harrelson plays Steve Schmidt, a GOP strategist and senior adviser to John McCain’s Presidential campaign, in this drama written for the screen by Danny Strong and directed by Jay Roach. Schmidt taps Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska, as the Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican party. The film follows the campaign from convention to ultimate defeat. Co-starring Julianne Moore, Sarah Paulson, and Ed Harris. Harrelson speaks of the real Steve Schmidt.
I really found myself liking him. He’s a political animal, but I feel like he’s an idealist and not bogged down in all the bullshit.
Game Change
Moore plays Sarah Palin, Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States in the 2008 Presidential election, in this drama written for the screen by Danny Strong and directed by Jay Roach. Palin, the Governor of Alaska, is tapped by John McCain’s campaign to join him as his Vice President candidate. Co-starring Woody Harrelson, Sarah Paulson, and Ed Harris.
To play a historical figure is one thing. To play a living historical figure deepens the challenge. But to play a culturally significant, very prominent, living figure, that kind of put it over the top.
Glasgow Caledonian University interview
Duffy talks to Glasgow Caledonian University about his career, how he started Entrepreneurial Spark, and the project’s aims.
It’s absolutely unique. We call them ‘Chicklets’ because Entrepreneurial Spark is the Hatchery. The Hatchery is the “hard” part. Within that we give free desks, free space, free printing, free computers, software, free cleaning, bins emptied, wireless broadband, printing, stationery, meeting rooms, ideation space, enablement. So it doesn’t get any better for a business to start up. That particular space has been provided, and paid for, by Willie Haughey OBE, a successful Glasgow businessman. I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you, if he hadn’t put his hand in his pocket. He was the first to do that after we got a donation from Tom Hunter. He’s opened up his business. He’s put us on his executive floor level. And these Chicklets can benefit from all that. The whole idea is the fail fast, they fail smart, and fail cheap…if they fail.

Wesley offers to help Lindsey get back on her feet and, though he’s already engaged, romantic sparks begin to fly. Suddenly, Wesley finds himself torn between what is expected of him and what he really wants. Co-stars Tyler Perry and Gabrielle Union.
Lindsey doesn’t see any of this coming, which is why she tries to pretend it is not happening to people around her. She’s still in shock from the fact that her husband is dead when her kid gets taken away. She doesn’t have time to adjust to life before the next thing happens and the next thing. It’s like trying to dig yourself out of an avalanche with a spoon. That’s what she is faced with.
