Washington directs and stars as Melvin B. Tolson in the biographical period drama, The Great Debaters. Based on the life of Wiley College’s debate coach Melvin Tolson, the film tells the story of how their 47th debate team made it to Harvard despite an era when the Jim Crow laws were commonplace. The film was produced by Oprah Winfrey. On directing:
It’s my passion. More than anything, I enjoy seeing talented people do what they do well. When you’re an actor, you come out of your trailer, do your thing, and then go back in. Directing is about collaboration—the production, the costuming, the script, the actors. I love it. It brings me joy.
Charlie Wilson’s War
Hoffman plays Gust Avrakotos, a CIA agent, in this drama directed by Mike Nichols. Texas congressman Charlie Wilson teams up with Avrakotos, a renegade, and a Houston socialite to assist Afghani rebels in their war with the Soviets. Their efforts contribute to the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold war.
I read about his life, and the things he did before this story are outrageous. When he says that people were trying to kill him, that’s something that would have come out of his mouth. When he was in Greece he did live a life where he was at risk of being killed, and his companion had been killed earlier. It was a case of one of those great characters where you could really get behind – somebody who’s life was lived in such extremes.
Charlie Wilson’s War
Adams plays Bonnie Bach, administrative assistant to Texas congressman Charlie Wilson, in this drama directed by Mike Nichols. Wilson teams up with a renegade CIA agent and a Houston socialite to assist Afghani rebels in their war with the Soviets. Their efforts contribute to the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.
It was so much fun. Just to be on that set and learn from these people and get to watch Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tom Hanks do these amazing scenes together, directed by Mike Nichols, it was for me like going to school.

I responded to it because I couldn’t believe that this had ever happened. In reading the book, I thought that this was a serious piece of journalism that describes something that’s almost surrealistic hilarious, as well as historically accurate.
National Treasure
Cage plays Benjamin Gates who must follow a clue left in John Wilkes Booth’s diary to prove his ancestor’s innocence in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Cage co-stars with Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha.
History is a world treasure and people seem to have picked up on that fact so I’d like to think that people around the world are interested in that. It is also good because it is based in our time not past or future but now.
The Mist
Based off the short story in King’s compilation, Skeleton Crew, The Mist is adapted into film by director Frank Darabont. Starring Thomas Jane, the film is made on am $18 million budget and grosses $57.3 million in the box office. Darabont took a risk by rewritting the screenplay’s ending to tear away from King’s original vision. To his surprise, King praised the ending, describing it as one that would be unsettling in studios.
The ending is such a jolt—wham! It’s frightening. The story is less about the monsters outside than about the monsters inside, the people you’re stuck with, your friends and neighbors breaking under the strain.

Portman plays Molly Mahoney, the Composer, in the family comedy Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. Starring Dustin Hoffman as nutty toy shop owner Edward Magorioum, the film revolves around his magically enchanted toy shop, nutty staff and their many colorful adventures.
It was an amazing thing to be a part of…. it’s a kid’s movie but it’s also something as an adult, it really reawakens this excitement about everything. Finding magic in any everyday object.

Man of the Year
Williams plays Tom Dobbs in this drama, directed by Barry Levinson. Afterwards a grass-roots campaign conducted by his many fans finds him unexpectedly ushered into the Oval Office and forced to live up to his promise. Co-starring Laura Linney and Lewis Black.
It’s all about money. And so that’s really the main issue behind it all. As long as we want to play this game, that you’re going to go and raise $250 million to be the President and think this President is going to be free enough to go do what he thinks is correct without maximum amount of influence to all the people he’s beholden to, it’s just not realistic.
American Gangster

The film is produced and directed by Ridley Scott. On portraying mob boss Frank Lucas:
It’s acting, first of all. And just because I play certain parts like that, doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t play other parts. Like people were shocked when I did Training Day. But that was one of the easiest roles for me.

Dancing With the Stars – week one
Cuban performs on the first episode of the show’s fifth season, with professional dancer Kym Johnson.
She is amazing. She is bright, funny and obviously a fabulous dancer. She’s also patient, laughs at my jokes and did a great job teaching me the foxtrot.
A Mighty Heart
In this drama, directed by Michael Winterbottom, Jolie plays Mariane Pearl, the wife of slain journalist Daniel Pearl. Co-starring: Dan Futterman and Irrfan Khan.
I was very worried. I’ve never been so nervous about anything. I work very hard but I’m very casual about it, it doesn’t keep me up at night but this one did. The night before shooting I was tossing and turning and imagining everything that could possibly go wrong. I felt bad that I was even assuming that I could play this woman that I respected so much and I felt humbled to a point of being unable to move.
