Daughters

The artist releases Daughters, from Heavier Things.

I loved a girl a lot, but she couldn’t trust men. And if you trace it back, it was the first man in her life she couldn’t trust. I know this song sounds like I’m just sitting around the house, spitballing, thinking of really lofty things to think about, but it really is the result of tracing it backwards to find out how I could possibly love this person. And the answer is: you can’t. Because someone else didn’t before you.

Baby Girl

The group releasesBaby Girl, from, Faster Than The Speed Of Life. Nettles when asked if the the song is autobiographical:

Oh, you bet. It was not only autobiographical, but it was also a self-fulfilling prophecy in the sense that it was the first single, and it manifested itself in a way of showing that success. And granted, every artist – every person, really – can relate to having a dream and wanting to go after it, and wanting to make your folks proud, and having that be part of the joy of it. I know that for me, definitely a big part of the joy of my success is being able to share that enjoyment and that excitement with my family. And they’re so proud. I love the story of that song and how it unfolded and how art definitely imitated life in that sense.

It’s an angelic, ghostly bluegrass ballad, really a tragedy, and I think when I get to heaven, if the angels don’t sound like Alison Krauss, we have been cheated.

Keith releases his single, Whiskey Girl, from his album, Shock’n Y’all. Frequent collaborator, Scotty Emerick:

She’s just the epitome of a redneck girl who ain’t into wine and beer or tequila. It’s not strong enough for her. She didn’t do anything but sip on whiskey … We wanted to make her sound like a really good-looking gal who’s also kind of rough — but not some slobbering binge drinker!

If I Ain’t Got You

The artist releases If I Ain’t Got You, from The Diary Of Alicia Keys.

The song idea came together right after Aaliyah passed away. It was such a sad time and no one wanted to believe it. It just made everything crystal clear to me – what matters, and what doesn’t.
