Moves to Wednesday nights

TNA announces that IMPACT will now air on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m.This move is largely due to direct competition with the NFL. Dixie Carter:

Ratings statement

TNA issues statement on their website boasting higher ratings and the largest viewership since February.

The Aug. 7 episode of IMPACT WRESTLING, TNA’s flagship program airing Thursday nights at 9/8c on Spike TV, drew 1.6 million viewers (P2+, +3 Rating), the largest audience since mid-February of this year. The episode was also up against six nationally or regionally televised NFL pre-season games, the first of the NFL season.

Diversity report: Mostly white, male

Apple releases a diversity report which shows that most of the highest earning employees are white and male. CEO Tim Cook says he is not happy with that fact and plans to take steps to make the Apple workforce more inclusive:

Forces close to taking back Donetsk

Ukraine’s military forces announce that they are close to recapturing Donetsk and are preparing the “final stage” of the attack. A spokesman says Kiev’s troops have cut Donetsk off from the other main rebel-held city of Luhansk, 150 km (90 miles) away, on Russia’s border. He tells Reuter’s:

The forces of the anti-terrorist operation are preparing for the final stage of liberating Donetsk. Our forces have completely cut Donetsk off from Luhansk. We are working to liberate both towns but it’s better to liberate Donetsk first – it is more important.

Buys security start-up

In an effort to protect the site from cyber attacks, Facebook purchases PrivateCore, a company that builds security software. Joe Sullivan, Facebook’s chief security officer, says PrivateCore’s technology:

protects servers from persistent malware, unauthorized physical access, and malicious hardware devices.

Based in Palo Alto, CA, the company was started in 2012 by security experts from Google and VMware. PrivateCore CEO Oded Horovitz says the deal gives both companies “a huge opportunity to pursue our joint vision at scale with incredible impact.” Neither company discloses the purchase price.

Major 2K15 update

2K Sports announces a major update for WWE 2K15 video game. the game will now feature a “2K Showcase” mode that will closely follow two specific WWE rivalries including documentary footage of the feuds. The announcement also includes a new MyCareer mode which will follow the method of 2K Sport’s NBA series.

Lionsgate and WWE Studios announce limited theatrical release for Leprechaun: Origins. The film will debut on August 22nd, will be released on Digital HD and Video on Demand on August 26th, and will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD format on September 30th.

WWE announces Diva’s Championship match for Summerslam pay-per-view on August 17th. The bout will feature A.J. Lee putting her championship on the line against challenger, Paige.

Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco strike deals

The production delay for The Big Bang Theory is over after Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco reached contracts deals, which reportedly include significant raises, with Warner Bros. Television. Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg continue to negotiate their contracts. Agreements are expected this week and the series likely will resume production on Wednesday.

Objects to ‘right to be forgotten’

Google sends a letter to European data regulators saying they find it too challenging to enforce the ‘right to be forgotten’ regulation a European Union court established. The ruling says that people should be able to request that inaccurate search results about them be removed from search engines. However, Google says in the letter that people often misrepresent their situation to get legitimate results removed:

Some requests turn out to have been made with false and inaccurate information. Even if requesters provide us with accurate information, they understandably may avoid presenting facts that are not in their favour.

Stocks rise
