Tavis Smiley interview

King discusses her career, her new CD, The Legendary Demos, and her new memoir, A Natural Woman, in this interview for PBS. On her collaboration with James Taylor:

I think friend. I think a special connection musically that I’ve not experienced with a lot of people in the same way. And, again, I describe this in the book in such a lovely, wonderful way. I put myself back in the moment of playing with him for the first time. It’s the same whenever we come together again after years we don’t see each other, we don’t play, we might not speak, but here we are, hello, and that’s what happened in the Troubadour tour.

Lewis discusses his career, including the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and the Showtime drama, Homeland, in this interview for PBS. On politics:

Yes, as much as I live in a democracy and I take an interest and want the right people leading the country. But you reach a certain level in what you do. You get lobbied quite a lot by whichever party is in power. You get invited to little dinner and things like that, and you have to be careful. I’ve been careful, at least, not to nail my colors to the mast too much.

Charming Man interview

The band are interviewed by Charming Man, a Manchester music blog. On their influences:

There are tons of bands that have influenced us but Radiohead, The Killers and Interpol probably the most prominent. We started out as a guitar band really, but were always interested in adding things like synths and strings. At the time my Mrs was in a band called Earl and they had been working with a David Luke from a band called My Computer who was a wizard with electro stuff. I picked his brains about what software to get and after a few months we had a new sound and some new tunes…I would say we have the same darkness in a lot of our tracks as Joy Division and my lyrics quite often share the same world weary view as those of Ian Curtis. New Order obviously pioneered and popularised synth and electro music and had more of a pop sensibility. They made music that will be played and fill dance floors for many years to come. We aim to achieve the same thing.

Tyler Perry interview

Seacrest interviews Perry during On Air With Ryan Seacrest asks him if giving up control of Alex Cross.

I started writing, because after the first couple of days I realized this is going to be very difficult for me to just sit here. What was easy for me, is to let go. Because Rob (Cohen) had a clear direction and anytime somebody knows where they’re going, I don’t mind following at all.

The Talks interview

Rush gives an interview to The Talks. He discusses how much he enjoys wearing tights, how he goes with the flow, and when he broke into mainstream.

I did a lot of work in the theater, which is a very low level of media interest, particularly in Australia, and suddenly when Shine came out all of the films that I was in came out at the time and I met a lot of wonderful colleagues. The films I was nominated around were things like Lars von Trier’s Breaking the Waves, Secrets & Lies by Mike Leigh, The English Patient… they were all very economically compact, but highly imaginative movies.

Krzyzewski comments on the one and done rule in college basketball:

I think if you’re going to stay in the business, you better be comfortable with it because that’s the environment. The thing about college basketball is the decision’s made above us — not by the NCAA, but by the NBA and the Player’s Union — it really determines the environment for college basketball in that regard. I don’t see that changing. I think the one and done has been really good for the NBA. I’m not sure it’s been as good for the Player’s Union, but it’s been good for the NBA because they get to market a high school talent for at least a year.

Maxim Interview

In an interview with Maxim, Schwartzman gives his thoughts on appearing in Moonrise Kingdom:

I would say that it’s an incredibly funny and poignant film about young love, and the dreams that you can have when you’re young. It takes place on an island, and is about a 12-year-old Khaki  Scout who meets a 12-year-old girl on the other side of the island, and they fall in love and hatch a plan to run away from their lives; they’re not having good lives at home. It’s also about all the adults—who are in various stages of love falling apart—chasing them. I’ll just say it: It’s a giant adventure-chasing movie centered on 12-year-olds who are in love.

Shape Magazine interview

Shahi talks to to Shape Magazine about what makes her feel sexy.

Right when I finish a workout, I feel pretty sexy. Even though I’m sweaty and I don’t smell like a rose, I feel strong. It does a lot for me mentally and physically. I feel in control, not to mention, it still feels good when guys check me out, especially my hubby. Reading is another one. I know it sounds weird, but my definition of sexy has changed as I’ve gotten older. And being smart and informed makes me feel sexier than any outfit. Right now I’m reading Writing Screenplays for Fun and Profit by Thomas Lennon and it’s hilarious.

Poffo talks about his time in WWE:

For me it was the greatest six years of my career, I then got fired but came back as the manager of the Beverly Brothers and got another run on the back of that. It was a tremendous opportunity, I really enjoyed the ‘Leaping’ Lanny role and then I got the opportunity to become The Genius but the best four months was the time I spent with Curt Hennig and being the adversary of Hulk Hogan.

Walken gives his thoughts on playing bad guys during his movie career:

It’s funny, because my background was in musical theater, and then The Deer Hunter and Annie Hall came out a year apart, where I played kind of unhinged guys. And in this business if you’re successful early on as a leading man or the comic relief or the crazy guy, chances are you’ll be asked to play that part again.

Fergie interview

Winfrey interviews Fergie in a one on one to discus her relations ship with Will.i.Am.

Yeah, that song, it was about the yin and yang of our working relationship. He’s my work husband. So, yeah, we go through stuff. It’s not always saccharin filled. I mean, sometimes creatively we disagree and I’m a strong woman and I’m going to say so.

Branson is interviewed for NPR. Virgin doesn’t normally do M&A:

Having said that, it would be quite fun to do something with American Airlines. And so, yeah, if anybody from American Airlines is listening, we’d be happy to get your call.

American should raise quality in areas like cabin furnishings and hostess uniforms:

I mean, when we started 30 years ago with one plane flying out of England, there were 15 American carriers that we were competing with: Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, People Express, etc., etc. Every single one of them … disappeared. And they disappeared because, although we were much smaller than them, their quality was awful.

Sustainable fuels can work in the airline industry:

When we did the first test flight on coconut oil, using coconuts and a mixture, you know, there [were] a lot of jokes made. The chairman of British Airways said it was all pie in the sky, etc., etc. But the most important thing in life is just to try these things, and we tried it.

Booker T talks about the last episode of WCW Monday Nitro:

It was a bitter-sweet night, I knew something that I had been apart of for so long was coming to an end and there was no way we could recreate that all over again, I knew that part of my life was going to change but on the other hand I was pretty excited because WWE had bought the company, Vince McMahon had taken over and I knew it was time for me to step up and that is exactly what I did. I always thought I was upper echelon talent and I would get a chance to prove it in WWE and I think I did that and I think I did it very well, but I was ready for the challenge.

Unbored editor Glenn and Frauenfelder, who wrote the intro for Unbored, talk about the book, and about how independent scenes like skateboarding and zines in the 80s helped launch the modern maker scene. Frauenfelder:

So many times, children’s activity books are filled with things that aren’t very much fun, aren’t challenging, and don’t have things that are fun or useful if you make them

Cohan talks about switching to a Southern accent while playing Maggie on AMC’s The Walking Dead:

I almost want to stay in an American accent all the time. I’m originally American, so it’s not actually that difficult. When people find out I grew up in England, I feel like I have to give a huge explanation. As soon as I’m on set, I’m very serious, and it’s very easy to go back into Maggie.

Edge speaks about his career in WWE:

I knew I was going to get to the WWE. I never doubted that. I assumed I’d do good. I never thought it would get to the point that it did. At a certain point, I think it was like the third World title, it was like ‘huh,’ ‘alright.’ And then the eight past that was just like ‘OK, now it’s getting ridiculous. This is awesome, but never expected that’ … never expected to be retiring at 37 … never expected to be in the Hall of Fame by 38. Those are things you can’t expect. It just kind of things that’ll blow you away and (make you) kind of go ‘wow, that was pretty awesome.’ It was a charmed career.

Bearer talks about managing The Undertaker and Kane in WWE:

They are such great performers, such great athletes. Such great men, gentlemen in general. I am truly humbled that I have been allowed to be associated with them for all these years,” Bearer said. “When me and Taker first started, his first WrestleMania was my first WrestleMania, so we’ve really been together all that time. I get asked, would you have thought then, that he’d be still going in 2012? Hell no, I wouldn’t then and I’m sure that he wouldn’t have either. In the early years, me and Taker were together so much, I mean all the time. We had a very special relationship and a very special bond.

Nash discusses being featured in WWE’s upcoming New World Order DVD:

I think the body of work still stands out. A lot of it, because we participated in; even though we did it, we’ve never seen it back. There have been so many matches and segments and things that we haven’t seen that sometimes, especially with the production that the WWE has, when they put something together, it’s usually an incredible piece and you sit there and kind of relive it again. You go ‘Oh yeah, forgot about that’. So, I look forward to watching those pieces because it does bring back a lot of memories.
