Not ‘at war’
The Secretary of State repeatedly neglects using the term “war” when describing the military conflict of the United States against ISIS, explaining why the term “war” is not appropriate to use. Kerry:
What we are doing is engaging in a very significant counterterrorism operation. It’s going to go on for some period of time. If somebody wants to think about it as being a war with ISIL, they can do so, but the fact is it’s a major counterterrorism operation that will have many different moving parts.
The comment generates confusion on Capitol Hill. McCain:
It’s hard to find a response to that. Then what was the president talking about [Wednesday] night?
Morgan Freeman interview

It was at that moment I realized, Jimmy Kimmel is a dumb ass.
Maxim Interview
Breenan discusses directing his own standup special:
Honestly, it’s not that difficult. Eddie Murphy was making fun of directing stand up specials one time. He was like, It’s not that hard; just point four cameras at me. That’s kind of what it is. The thing that I didn’t do is when I talked about black people, I didn’t cut to black people, and when I talked about Asian people I didn’t cut to Asian people. That’s my only innovation as a stand up director. Otherwise, it wasn’t like my proudest moment. It’s more just a show off thing. Like, Well, I can also direct it because I direct stuff.
‘Obama strategy is credible’
Gen. Petraeus says that Obama’s strategy to counter ISIS will likely be successful, although the battle against ISIS in Iraq and Syria take years. ISIS is not as great a threat as Al Qaeda was during the height of the Iraq War:
This is not the kind of Iraq on fire, complete desperation we had during the surge. [ISIS] has nowhere the roots and the structure of al-Qaida in Iraq.
The formation of a more inclusive government will address sectarian tensions:
It’s a new Iraqi government now. There’s new hope, there’s outreach.
This could be vital in ensuring the strategy is a success, as ISIS capitalized on sectarian divisions and chain-of-command vulnerabilities when routing the Iraqi military in the group’s initial offensives:
The third failing was the population was not happy with sectarian and loyalist leaders.
In Syria, opposition to ISIS is less cohesive and the Assad regime may have to be removed before a credible force can be assembled against ISIS:
This is going to be years, not months.

Anna Kendrick interview
Kendrick discusses her achievements and challenges over the last five years, with Richard Crouse.
If there is something really incredible everybody wants it so I audition. It’s a competitive business by nature. I know that room and that line of two hundred girls. I didn’t have to dig that deep to know the anxiety and self doubt. Obviously it was a lot more fun to be working on a movie where I’m doing that and not going home and crying into my pillow. That was a fun thing to perform and see inside her head and talk about the indignity of not being paid attention to when you are trying to perform for somebody.
Tavis Smiley interview
Harris discusses Frontera, his latest film, in this interview for PBS.
Well, it is a topic very much in the news, for sure. We shot this film about a year and a half ago, I guess, in New Mexico. Michael Berry, who wrote it and directed it, grew up in southern Arizona and his co-writer, Louis. It’s a subject matter he wanted to deal with and I think he deals with it really well. I mean, it’s not a preaching kind of deal. It doesn’t really take sides. It just kinds of presents a situation that the country’s trying to deal with right now.

Melendez talks to Busted Open about his dreams as a child, his service in the United States military and professional wrestling.
The military was where I was going to go, that was my goal. I could remember I was in high school at the time my father was working in downtown Manhattan, were the World Trade Centers were and couldn’t get into contact with him for several hours, and we eventually met back at the house, and all I could remember was him covered head to toe in white debris and that image really burned into my mind, and just looking at him standing in the door way and it infuriated me because they brought the fight over here, and I am like I am going to bring it back over to you. It just added fuel to the fire more for me to get into the military.
