Sex scandals: ‘A leprosy in our house’
Francis tells an Italian newspaper that the Catholic Church’s requiring its clergy to remain celibate is a “problem” for which “there are solutions.” Allegedly, the Pope told the newspaper that one in 50 members of the clergy are pedophiles, and he says the Church’s sex abuse scandal is “a leprosy in our house.” The Pope tells Eugenio Scalfari, the 90-year-old founder of La Repubblica:
The 2 percent of pedophiles are priests, and even bishops and cardinals. And others, even more numerous, know about it but keep quiet. They punish without saying the reason why. I find this state of things untenable and it is my intention to confront it with the severity it requires.
60 Seconds with Jim Duffy
The Fife Business Journal asks Duffy questions about Entrepreneurial Spark. On why he started the program.
I realised that the support services available to start-ups in Scotland weren’t very joined up and that other countries which were fostering start-up businesses for the first 12 to 18 months helped them achieve traction more quickly. If you look at the likes of the ecosystems in Boston and New York, for example, they have great entrepreneurial hubs in which businesses really look after each other. I saw that similarities could be applied over here in Scotland but you can’t just take a US model and plonk it in this country and expect it to work. I had to look at the business psyche in Scotland and assess the mindsets and perceptions of its entrepreneurs. It seemed to take a lot more over here to make people ‘oven ready’. I had initially planned to launch E-Spark as a private, limited company but I did nine months of research beforehand and went out to Babson College in Boston. When I told them I’d raised a quarter-of-a-million to help fund it, they said ‘don’t do it; go home and start it as a social enterprise instead’. Everything seemed to pick up right away and, before long, Sir Tom Hunter became involved.
CXOTalk interview
Scoble talks on the Google+ hangout about how smartphones have created his concept of the age of context, where wearables, sensors, social apps, data and the ‘Internet of things’ are converging to create what he says is a new kind of operating system. He talks about his job interviewing startup founders about the future of tech, and talking with people like Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Mark Benioff of Salesforce rather than enterprise tech companies:
Those are typically the people who are pushing the future. You don’t really hear about something crazy starting at enterprises.
Columbia interview
Corcoran says the three essential qualities for an entrepreneur are sales skills, the ability to motivate, manipulate and convince people, and being able to take a hit:
If you by nature can take a hit and are stupid enough to pop back up and say ‘Hit me again, hit me again,’ you’re perfect for an entrepreneur
Shape Magazine interview
Bittman speaks to Shape Magazine about his Vegan Before Six diet that recommends eating vegan meals and snacks every day before six o’clock.
We know that diets don’t work. They’re depriving and hard to stay on long-term. I wanted something that was easy to stay on for the rest of my life. Everybody wants to go to restaurants, drink at night, and feel like they’re eating normally when they go out to eat.
Cosmopolitan interview
Trainor speaks about All About That Bass, which has received 1.7 million views on YouTube. When asked if she has always had a positive attitude about her own body image:
No, no, not at all. I didn’t know how cool I was until just recently. I wish I knew how cool I was in high school, you know? And I see my little cousins — now they have Instagram at 13. I didn’t have Instagram, but I’m pretty sure I would have been more confused about everything if I did at that age. I wrote it to help me as well. And it has helped me because people have been complimenting me like, ‘Man, you look good in that video!’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah I do!’ If I help other people that’s just another dream come true.
Talk is Jericho interview
Torres is a guest on Talk is Jericho to discuss WWE, Vince McMahon and the WWE Diva Search contest.
First I submitted a video. I went in and they interviewed on video. I said, “OK, let’s see how it goes”. Then they called me back for casting for the show which is only like 50 plus girls from thousands.
Let go by the Knicks
Odom is let go by the New York Knicks , President Phil Jackson announces.
Unfortunately, Lamar was unable to uphold the standards to return as an NBA player. We found it necessary to free up the roster spot.
Rejects apology
Clooney rejects the apology from Daily Mail for printing a false statement about the actor and his future mother-in-law’s religious differences. Clooney says that the publication knew what they were printing was untrue and printed it anyway:
What separates this from all of the ridiculous things the Mail makes up is that now, by their own admission, it can be proved to be a lie. In fact, a premeditated lie. So I thank the Mail for its apology. Not that I would ever accept it, but because in doing so they’ve exposed themselves as the worst kind of tabloid.
Shape Magazine interview
Chastain talks to Shape Magazine about winning the Women’s World Cup for the U.S.
For all of us who were involved with the national team in the ’99 World Cup Game, it was a lifelong commitment to being the best that we could be and to ultimately bring all of that into play during the entire tournament. When Briana Scurry (U.S. goalkeeper) made the block on China’s third kicker, I knew right away that we would win the game. We had already made three kicks ourselves and that was such a huge turning point. It just solidified the confidence I had, and I knew we would win.
Steve Austin Show interview
Dreamer is a guest on the Steve Austin Show to discuss Dusty Rhodes, ECW and violence.
It was always my dream to be a wrestler. Dusty Rhodes was always my favorite. I was also a big Muda and Sting mark. I wanted to paint my face and when the time was right, blow acid in a man’s face as my finisher. I was gonna call myself Tommy Acid.
WWE.com interview
Van Dam talks to WWE.com about his return to the ring in Philadelphia and who all knew about his negotiations with the company.
Philadelphia’s awesome. It’s one of my top home away from homes. When I walk around on the streets there, people recognize me. They think I’m from Philadelphia, because I was there so much and because I’m so associated with Philadelphia through ECW. That was Paul’s genius. It wasn’t just a hardcore, extreme, rebellious, renegade wrestling company. It had the flavor and the pride of South Philly, which was very proud of ECW and me and my accomplishments. Because of that, people will always associate me with Philly.
Disputes rumors
Angle disputes rumors that he passed out on a plane due to public intoxication.
I’m excited to say I’m coming up on my one year anniversary of being clean and sober. I’m very humbled. God has truly blessed me. It’s been a difficult but exciting road to living alcohol/drug free. Then some heartless individuals want to create rumors of me ‘passed out’ on a plane. Wow! I guess you can’t take a nap on a plane when you’re a recovering addict. But it only makes me want to stay clean even more!
Leah Remini interview
Williams interviews Leah Remini and questions her about new reality TV show Leah Remini: Its all relative, friendship with Jennifer Lopez and being on Dancing With The Stars.
Well that’s the thing. Jen is a girls, girl. You know and I think people are fascinated by our friendship but like to me it is just a normal friendship. A lot of time I forget how big she is and what she has accomplished. Never do I call her J-Lo.
Ross Report interview
Angle is a guest on The Ross Report to discuss his recent surgery and wrestling Brock Lesnar.
The match was tight. There’s no doubt about it. There was only one takedown. I took Brock down, and that was it. That’s when I put the fingers up, said two, and it’s over. But we went a good 12 to 15 minutes. It was a good battle; Brock did outweigh me by about 70 pounds at the time. He was a big boy, but I knew that. It was a tight match. Did I beat him? Yeah, I edged him.
Tavis Smiley interview
Bridges discusses his career and his current shows, CBS sitcom The Millers and Showtime drama Masters of Sex, in this interview for PBS.
Well, you know, one of the wonderful things about show business is the unpredictability of it all. I mean, I had no idea and these two great opportunities came, The Millers by my friend, Greg Garcia, who is the show runner and he did My Name is Earl. I played Earl’s dad on that, so I know Greg. He’s one of the best show runners going. And then Masters of Sex is, you know, the total opposite of that, a full-on drama.
Talk is Jericho interview
Christian appears on Talk is Jericho to discuss Edge, tag teams, his time in TNA and how talent acquiring has changed in WWE.
The way that the talent is brought in now has changed quite a bit with the talent center down in Orlando. That’s probably the biggest difference where-as when we came it ya just had to cut your teeth.
Ed Sheeran interview
Seacrest interviews Sheeran during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions him on what it was like to work with Hilary Duff.
The only time I was available was 1 a.m. and she was a trooper. She came in, she vocaled it, and yeah, I’m very, very happy with the results. And I hope she is too!
Chrissy Teigen interview
Williams interviews Teigen and questions her about her cooking show Snack Off.
Its a cooking competition show for young people. So they are cooking with whatever they may have in like their dorm room. Anything like Twinkies, top roamen, hot dogs. Its really fun.
Doctor Who inspiration
Spielberg’s Co-Producer on Extant, Mickey Fisher, tells The Daily Telegraph in an interview that the classic British Science fiction series Doctor Who was a big inspiration for him while he was writing the Extant pilot.
Because I’m a big Doctor Who fan, I had a Post-it note on the corner of my monitor that said, ‘WWSMD; what would Steven Moffat do?’ [Doctor Who] has such a great heart at the centre of it, and I think that was really important to me. It’s not a dystopian world. We want [Extant] to be something that people could relate to, this story about this family that people would appreciate.
