Soldier dies
The solider dies of his wounds at Ottawa Civic Hospital. Conservative cabinet minister Jason Kenney, minister of employment and social development, confirms:

Thornton, Angland marry
After 12 years of dating, Thornton marries Angland in a private ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.

Father dies
Paul Cantlie passes away at the age of 81 from penumonia-related complications. He was brought up in Nanking until the Japanese invasion during the second world war, and his father was said to have designed much of the railway infrastructure throughout China. Cantlie later served as a governor of Southampton General hospital. A statement says that the family had tried to contact John in the last few days before the death was made public. His family:

Soldier dies after attack
Vincent, 53, dies
of his injuries. The second soldier, who is not identified, is recovering in hospital. Vincent was a 28-year veteran of the Canadian Forces who had been stationed at bases across Canada. He was posted in North Bay, Ont., until 2012 as a refrigeration and mechanical technician wing construction engineer, and had also served as a military firefighter. He loved cycling. Dwayne MacIntosh, who worked with Vincent for three years on HMCS St John’s:

Dies in car crash
Shim, a Lebanese-American reporter for Press TV, is killed in a car crash in Turkey a day after stating that Turkish intelligence was spying on her. She had been reporting that ISIS militants had crossed the border in trucks used by NGOs to carry food. Press TV broadcast:

Beheaded man with Down Syndrome
Kurdish rights activist Bazran Halil and his wife, Raushan, say the group beheaded a man with Down Syndrome in Kobani and impose horrific punishments for violating what they say is Islamic law. Bazran in an interview in Turkey:
There was a man with Down Syndrome. He couldn’t understand the situation, to flee, or to run away from the frontline. When ISIS arrived they beheaded him and took photos, shared them on social media and said ‘we killed an atheist, a Kaffir’.
Raushan:
For smoking, they chop your fingers off. Drinking is punished by jail. And if a woman is seen in the company of a man who is not her relative, she is stoned to death.
They say ISIS also abducted a group of high-schoolers in Aleppo for exams and made the boys study Shariah law in a mosque, shocking them with electric cables if they did not learn quickly enough.
Oscar de la Renta dies at 82
De la Renta dies in his Connecticut home surrounded by family and friends. The cause of de la Renta’s death is not clear at this time. Family statement:

All that we have done, and all that we will do, is informed by his values and his spirit. Through Oscar’s example we know the way forward. Rossi, Sheen break engagement
Sheen ends his engagement with former adult film star Rossi just one month before their November wedding date. Sheen says he wants to focus on his children.

Confirmed dead
Upham’s family confirms that a body found in a wooded area near Forest Ridge Drive in Auburn is the missing actress. The cause of death is yet unknown. Family friend, filmmaker Tracy Rector:
The family has stated that, after seeing the body, they still do not feel that Misty Upham committed suicide. The family wants everyone to know that the Auburn police did not help with this situation at all. They refused to help. When she disappeared on Oct. 5, the family knew something was seriously wrong – it was out of character for her to be gone so long without being in touch – and they repeatedly went to the police, who insisted there was no cause for concern.
Crashes bike
Feld says that his biking days are over after a crash that leaves him unconscious and in the hospital.
I have no memory of what actually happened. The last thing I remember, after much prompting, was turning left onto Iris from Broadway. While the 911 calls were all for a hit and run, there’s no real evidence of that since my bike is generally fine and nothing, including me, looks like it was hit by a car. At this point, I’m guessing that I took the turn too wide and must have hit the curb and lost control of the bike. Maybe I squeezed my breaks and went over my handlebars. Or maybe I crossed over into a parallel universe for a little while and when I came back landed on my face.
I’m doing ok today. Nothing is broken and according to the hospital I don’t have a concussion. I’ve very banged up. I’ll probably have two black eyes, I have a sprained thumb, and lots of cuts and bruises everywhere. My face is very swollen and my head is very bumpy and weird from all the swelling. I have a persistent headache, no matter how much Advil I take. My glasses are destroyed so I’m wearing some old ones, which probably isn’t helping…My biking career, short as it was, is officially over.
Mark Bell dies age 43

Warns against traditional remedies
The UN body says practices like rubbing a patient’s body with limes and onions or drinking saltwater are ineffective against the virus, and warns against fake vaccines and cures.
Decades of scientific research have failed to find a curative or preventive agent of proven safety and effectiveness in humans, though a number of promising products are currently under development. All rumours of any other effective products or practices are false. Their use can be dangerous. In Nigeria, for example, at least two people have died after drinking salt water, rumoured to be protective.
Thomas Eric Duncan dies of Ebola
Duncan is pronounced dead at 7:51 a.m. at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where he was admitted Sept. 28 and has been kept in isolation. Texas officials are monitoring 10 people who had direct contact with him while he was symptomatic, as well as 38 others who may have had contact. None have shown symptoms of the disease to this point. They will be monitored for 21 days, the normal incubation period for the disease. Hospital:

Marian Seldes dies at 86
Seldes dies at her home in New York after an extended illness at the age of 86. Seldes’ brother Timothy Seldes:

Adopts school
The 49 year old actress adopts Warren Easton Charter High in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Bullock’s donations have helped rebuild the historic campus, fund scholarships for graduates, pay for athletic equipment and band uniforms and open a health clinic.Bullock expresses about the students:
