Eve, Cooper marry
Eve and Cooper exchange vows at the Blue Marlin, Cala Jondal Beach in Ibiza, Spain. Guests are asked to dress in elegant beach attire. Bun B is the master of ceremonies, and Eve wears an Alice Temperley dress. In the days leading up to the event, the bride and groom planned several activities for their guests including a night out at Pacha club. and a poolside party at Destino.
We are beyond happy to celebrate our marriage with all of our friends and family and start our journey in our new life together.
Retiring
LaJoie announces in a memo that he is retiring as CTO effective December 31st:
As many of you know, I have been planning for quite some time to retire at the end of this year, after 21 years with TWC and following my 60th birthday. Recent events have made this decision more complicated, but after careful consideration, I intend to stay with that plan.
Hamid Heidary will lead TechNO as a consultant as LaJoie transitions duties.
Leaves company

Glenn Britt dies
Former Time Warner Cable CEO Britt dies in his home following a battle with cancer. Britt remained as a member of the board after retiring in July 2013. He is survived by his wife, Barbara. Colleague Michael Willner says:
Glenn led a shift in increasing the importance and positioning of broadband versus the conventional business. He prodded and pushed us to think in that way.
Sierra Leone locks down
Sierra Leone declares a 4-day lockdown from the 18th to the 21st of September 2014. This is in a bid to tackle the Ebola outbreak in the country. The aim of the move is to allow health care workers to isolate new cases and prevent the disease from spreading further. Health workers will be given vaccines in November, after safety checks have been completed.
Youth center project
Sheeran buys a police station, to convert into a youth center, for his home town of Framlingham, Suffolk. Sheeran has spent more than £1 million on the home town that he credits for getting him started in music. His dream is to retire in his home town and give back by running the community center.
Maynard, Johnson marry
Maynard marries Johnson in surprise wedding in front of 200 guests who have been invited to Tyler’s family farm for what they thought was an engagement party. Maynard:

Zee, Aaron marry
Zee marries Aaron on the shores of Lake Michigan. The TV-friendly couple are based in New York and Aaron works for the local NBC affiliate but they decided to wed on the shores of Lake Michigan because that is where she went every summer while growing up. They first have a vows ceremony and then hold a second, more traditional ceremony outside in a circle of rosepetals overlooking the Lake, in front of their 55 guests. Aaron:
I’m not joking. Since I knew I was marrying Ginger, I’ve been writing the vows in my head. So every time I thought about it I started crying. We’d be walking and I’d have to turn my head and blame it on allergies I don’t even have.
Hurst, Stas marry
Hurst and Stas tie the knot in San Juan Capistrano, California. Invited for the special occasion, which was planned by Gather Events, are close family and friends. Stas wears a Monique Lhuillier gown and a handmade head piece by Janie Baltzer. She is escorted by her father and joined by her sisters as her maids of honors, who carried flowers by Krista Jon. Jackson and his grooms-men donned Vera Wang suits.

Nyong’o & Christie join cast
Lupita Nyong’o & Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) join the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, commented on the casting choice:

The roles the actresses will play have not yet been announced.
Algeria confirms first cases
Two Algerian men, ages 66 and 59, test positive after returning from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The Algerian Health Ministry confirms the cases but gives no details as to the men’s condition.
Etheridge, Wallem marry
Etheridge marries Linda Wallem at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. The couple exchange their vows in the lily garden under an arbor, which is surrounded by red and purple flowers. Etheridge wears a gray suit while Wallem dons a sparkly dress. Guests include Rosie O’Donnell, Chelsea Handler, and Whitney Cummings.

Steps down from Hacker News
Graham announces that he is stepping down from his day-to-day role at the site. Kat Manalac and Garry Tan will be take over responding to individual comments, and others will be responsible for design, code and community management.
I’ll still be around as a user, but less frequently than when I felt I had to check the site every hour or so to make sure nothing had broken.
American carries out suicide bombing
An American detonates a suicide bomb in Syria on behalf of al-Nusra Front, the Syrian arm of Al Qaeda, driving a truck laden with 16 tons of explosives into a restaurant patronized by government troops in the northwestern city of Idlib. The group tweets a statement confirming the bombing, referring to him by his nom de guerre, ‘the American father of the kitten’:
Abu Hurayra Al-Amriki performed a martrydom operation in Idlib, Jabal Al-Arba’een. May Allah accept him.
The U.S. government identifies him as Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha, of Florida.

Kurdish boys kidnapped
Over 140 Kurdish junior high school boys, on their way home from taking final exams, are kidnapped by armed fighters. The boys are forcibly removed from buses driving children back to their homes in Ayn al-Arab, and are transported by truck to the ISIS controlled city Manbij in northern Syria. The boys are being taught about jihad and Sharia doctrines, are forced to watch videos depicting torture and execution, and are receiving military training. Human Rights Watch states in a report on the abduction:
Former recruits described how leaders gave children particularly difficult or dangerous tasks and encouraged them to volunteer for suicide attacks.
