Two dead, five missing
Officials confirm there are at least two dead and five missing from the storm striking the Regatta outside Mobile Alabama. Rescue and search efforts continue. Officials:
Forty people have been rescued from the water after the 4:30 p.m. storm, and the Coast Guard believes five people remained missing Sunday. We think we are looking for five additional people in the water but we are still pulling for information.
Four missing, one dead
At least four are missing and one is dead in Alabama after several boats capsize in a storm during the Dauphin Island Regatta. The search for survivors continues. Officials:
It’s been a very tragic day. We’ve had a lot of breakage, missing people, fatalities. Apparently there were a number of vessels that became distressed, either capsized or what have you. They were scattered anywhere from Dauphin Island Bridge all the way out into Mobile Bay and across to Fort Morgan. It was a wide area.
U.S. sends aid
U.S. sends disaster team and promises $1 million in aid to help Nepal and surrounding areas recover from the devastating earthquake. Secretary of State Kerry:
We are working closely with the government of Nepal to provide assistance and support. Ambassador Bodde has issued a disaster declaration in order to immediately release an initial $1 million for humanitarian assistance. USAID is preparing to deploy a Disaster Assistance Response Team and is activating an Urban Search and Rescue Team to accompany disaster experts and assist with assessments of the situation.
Death toll tops 1400
Tremors continue after the devastating earthquake in Nepal which leaves more than 1400 dead and thousands more injured. Officials fear the death toll will continue to climb before the aftershocks stop. The large area affected makes help difficult and people are frightened. Survivor:
There is no power and families are listening to the FM radio inside their cars. News of multiple building collapses. I’ve seen many cracked walls and roads and buildings. The (Dharahara, a landmark tower in Kathmandu) was packed with people a while ago. There are police everywhere trying to move rubble to make space on the roads for ambulances. Everyone is very scared.
7.9 magnitude
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake strikes in Nepal only 2km below the earth’s surface. At least two are dead with many more injured. Tremors are felt as far away as Delhi. Reporter:
Massive tremors have been felt here in Delhi and several other parts of India. You can see pictures of our Delhi studios, where the windows rattled and everything shook for a very long time, for a minute perhaps or longer.

We don’t know about the casualties, we are flooded with calls.

Bomb threat causes revacuation
An anonymous caller threatens to blow up the Statue of Liberty, leading to an complete evacuation with only emergency personnel allowed to remain. Spokesperson:
All visitors and staff were safely ferried off Liberty Island soon after an anonymous caller threatened to blow up the statue that stands guard at the mouth of the Hudson River. The 911 call came in at around 11 a.m. local time.
Car bombing
Police say at least ten are dead due to a suspected suicide bomber crashing into a restaurant in central Mogadishu. Al Shabaab claims responsibility.
The death toll is sure to rise. A policeman opened fire to stop the car bomb but it was all in vain. The policeman died and the car bomb rammed into the gate in the busy restaurant…These are mostly civilians who were having lunch at the restaurant
6.6 magnitude quake
An undersea earthquake hits off Taiwan’s coast, causing an electrical transformer to explode and starting a house fire in Taipei. One elderly man is killed due to the fire. No other deaths and no significant damage are reported. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center:

Bomb attack on U.N. vehicle
Al Shabaab militants are suspected of bombing a United Nations vehicle outside of the U.N. compound in Garowe in the Puntland region. A police officer on scene:
A blast hit the bus carrying workers to the U.N. office . . . At least nine people died.
Of the confirmed dead, two are Kenyan and seven are Somali guards. The U.N. Special Representative for Somalia condemns the attack, saying he is:
. . . shocked and appalled by loss of life.
More beach beheadings
A 29-minute video showing the killing of two groups Ethiopian Christians captives by Islamic State-affiliated militants in Libya is released. A masked fighter wielding a pistol says Christians must convert to Islam or pay a special tax prescribed by the Quran, before the captives in the south are shown being shot dead and the captives in the east are beheaded on a beach.
Boat capsizes
A boat carrying more than 700 migrants capsizes near Libyan waters. Italian ships, the Maltese Navy and commercial vessels involved in the rescue operation. Twenty eight people have been rescued. Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat:
Rescuers are literally trying to find people alive among the dead floating in the water…If confirmed, it would be the biggest migrant tragedy to have taken place in the Mediterranean in recent times.
Suicide attack kills over 30
A suicide bomb attack on a bank branch in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad kills at least 30 people. More than 80 people wounded in the attack. The attacker detonated an explosive-laden motorcycle, targeting a crowd of both military personnel and civilians who were gathered outside the bank to receive their monthly salaries. The bank branch is located in the heart of a crowded commercial district.
Another blast was reported near a shrine in Jalalabad, but no one was hurt. A third blast was also heard in Jalalabad, but it was later reported as a controlled explosion by the Afghan army in Nangarhar. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Tour bus fire
The band’s tour bus catches fire on the way from Nashville to the Academy of Country Music Awards in Dallas. No injuries are reported, as everyone was able evacuate safely. Scott:

Death toll rises to 84
The office of attorney Kenneth Feinberg, who is overseeing victim compensation on GM’s behalf, says the death toll from General Motors’ defective ignition switch has risen by four from a week earlier to 84. The office has also processed 157 injury claims, combination of claims for serious injuries and claims for less severe injuries, as of April 10. Eleven claims were categorized as serious injuries resulting in quadriplegia, paraplegia, double amputation, permanent brain damage or pervasive burn. The remaining 146 claims were for less serious injuries requiring hospitalization or outpatient medical treatment within 48 hours of the accident. Feinberg’s office received 4,342 claims. Of those claims, 241 have been deemed eligible. Feinberg’s office is still reviewing another 1,136 claims.
Hit by car
Reynolds is the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Vancouver, Canada. He is uninjured. The driver is allegedly a paparazzo.
Derailment evacuation ends
South Carolina say an evacuation order has been lifted for all but four homes following a 39-car train derailment in rural South Carolina. Investigators with the NTSB and Norfolk Southern do not know the cause of the 39-car train derailment and offer no additional details. Aiken County Hazmat officials have detected no harmful spills at the scene even though one of the Norfolk Southern tankers carries anhydrous ammonia and another ammonia nitrate, or dry fertilizer.
‘Bestiality’ stoning
Images released by the group show a man accused of ‘having sex with animals’ and ‘having a homosexual affair’ being stoned. Forced to wear a scarf over his eyes, the man’s hands are bound behind his back as he stands next to a freshly-prepared grave. A dozen ISIS fighters throw large rocks at the victim while the all-male crowd watch on. Graphic close-up shots of the man’s broken body show his injuries. The group also publishes images of a prisoner of war, who had been caught fighting and spying on behalf of the Assad regime, being beheaded in the Syrian desert.
University assault kills 147
Al-Shabab militants kill 147 people in an attack at Garissa University in north-eastern Kenya. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta:

Regulates fracking
AER issues rules to regulate fracking, and monitor and prevent earthquakes in the province. Alberta has the third proven crude oil reserve in the world, after Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. All oil producers must show the impact of fracking, and implement a monitoring and response program. Jim Ellis, AER’s CEO:

One dead, two injured
One person is dead and two are injured after a car with two people inside try to ram a gate before the NSA’s headquarters. A firefight ensues, leaving at least one of the people inside the car is dead. Cocaine and a weapon were found in or around the vehicle. No indication as to whether or not the incident was terrorism-related.
Our Evidence Response Team is processing the crime scene, and FBI Agents are doing joint interviews with witnesses. We are working with the US Attorney’s Office in Maryland to determine if federal charges are warranted.
