Endorses Rubio
GOP mega-donor, Singer, endorses Rubio in a letter sent to dozens of other donors. He praises Rubio’s message of optimism about America’s future, his work on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and his ability to make a persuasive case to voters as key reasons to support him. Singer describes Rubio as the only candidate who can ‘navigate this complex primary process, and still be in a position to defeat’ Hillary Rodham Clinton in a general election.
This combination of appealing substantive views well suited to both the primary and general electorate, deep command of foreign and domestic policy details, hopeful confidence in America, grasp of 21st century realities and opportunities, political courage, and rhetorical style and talent, make him an exceptional candidate, perfect for this moment, and a potentially transformative governing figure.
Bush and several other candidates, including Christie, were reportedly competing for Singer’s support.

Endorses Trump
In an interview with HuffPost Live, Tyson says he supports Trump.
He should be President of the United States. That’s what he should be. He should be President of the United States…[So he’s got your vote?] Hell, yeah. Big time…Why wouldn’t anybody like [him]? A guy that came from where he came from and doing what he’s doing and now this is where he’s at now. Know what that means? That doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. Or that people don’t know what they’re doing. That means people are tired of what you’ve been doing. What we’ve been doing the last 20 years. Let’s try something new. We tried Obama, time for a change, so we gotta change. Let’s run America like a business. No colors matter. Whoever can do the job, gets the job.
Poll: Carson overtakes Trump nationally
According to a CBS News/New York Times national poll, Carson leads Trump 26 percent to 22 percent among likely Republican voters. Carson’s four-point lead is within the survey’s margin of error. All other candidates are at 4% or less. 70% of Republican primary voters say they have not decided which candidate they will support.
Over 380,000 fans sign petition
A petition (link) to try and force MotoGP officials to drop Rossi’s penalty gets over 380,000 signatures. The petition, started by Nicholas Davis, of Virginia Water in the UK, says:
The integrity of MotoGP is falling into disgrace. You have just condoned dirty racing tactics by punishing Valentino Rossi for pursuing the championship whilst being harassed and sabotaged by Marc Marquez. Justifying your decision by stating that there is no rule to deal with the actions of Marc Marquez is as absurd as saying there is no rule to prevent riders shooting at other riders with guns.
Endorses Sanders, fears Clinton
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Waters says that, although he cannot vote in the U.S., he supports Sanders:
He’s the only person in the race that I see with any credibility. He seems to speak the truth, far as one can tell at this point. He seems prepared to stand up against big money and the banks and stand up for the predicaments of minorities, the middle class and the working class in this country…When he speaks the truth, he sounds very left-wing, but that is because we have been fed this right-wing bullshit by the whole of the mainstream media since the Second World War. And it has gotten worse and worse and worse, and the outlets for dissenting voices have become fewer and fewer. So he is bound to sound out of step, because he is! And that is what is so good about him.
However, Clinton worries him:
Hillary worries me. I have an awful worry that she might become the first woman president to drop a f-cking nuclear bomb on somebody. There is something scarily hawkish about her, and she has that politician look down of, ‘You are never going to get a word of truth out of me.’
Protests police brutality
Tarantino joins hundreds of demonstrators to protest police brutality nationwide.
I’m a human being with a conscience, and if you believe there’s murder going on then you need to rise up and stand up against it. I’m here to say I’m on the side of the murdered.
The event is the last of three demonstrations the group RiseUpOctober organized in New York this week. Speakers at the protest say they want justice for people killed by police.
Supports Clinton in Iowa
Bill Clinton and Perry give their support to Hillary, at a rally in Iowa.
I stand and I march with Hillary. I believe in her future, her vision. I believe in her policies. I believe in equal rights for men, women.

Y’know, sometimes it’s important. You just have to roar about what you have to fight for.
Will not run for president
In a statement made from the White House Rose Garden with his wife Jill and President Obama, Biden says he will not run for president, ending months of speculation.
I believe we’re out of time — the time necessary to mount a winning campaign…As my family and I have worked through the grieving process, I’ve said all along — what I’ve said time and again to others — that it may very well be that process, by the time we get through it, closes the window on mounting a realistic campaign for president – that it might close….While I will not be a candidate, I will not be silent. I intend to speak out clearly and forcefully, to influence as much as I can.
Endorses Trump
In an interview with BET, Mackie says he endorses Trump.
I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign. 100 percent. I mean, first that’ll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump’s an easy sell… When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that…I’m on the bandwagon. I’m drinking the Kool-Aid.
Runs for Senator
Pacquiao formally declares his senatorial bid in the 2016 Philippine general elections. He is currently a member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the province of Sarangani. The boxer announces his bid for a higher Senate seat during his State of the District Address.
In the coming days, I will be embracing new levels of responsibility. I will be confronting tough challenges. My term as your Congressman will soon be over but I will continue to be of service to you and to our fellow Filipinos. I am formally announcing my candidacy for Senator. I am running for a higher office. Maybe its time, this will be the first time in our history that there will be a Senator from Region 12.
Rio mayor bans Uber
Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor Paes signs a bill banning Uber. Uber has over 5,000 drivers and 500,000 users since launching in Brazil a year ago, and aggression by politicians and taxi drivers has been mounting. To celebrate the signing, Paes drives around in a taxi picking up random passengers. Paes:
I can’t drive Uber, it’s illegal.
Uber:
To please taxi owners, Mayor Paes sanctioned a completely unconstitutional law that is trying to ban technology from the city, leaving cariocas with less options to get around. We are now looking at appropriate legal measures. Uber believes that the service our partner drivers provides is completely legal and supported by federal law.
Endorses Trump
Icahn endorses Trump for president, criticizing the “dysfunction that is going on both in Washington and the boardrooms of corporate America” and cites the U.S. Congress for failing to reform taxes or immigration. He backs Trump’s calls to strike tax deals to encourage corporations to bring back overseas profits and stay based in the U.S.; to end the carried interest tax discount for hedge fund and private-equity managers; and says the Federal Reserve is overdue in beginning to raise interest rates.
You have this movement toward a guy like Donald Trump, because you want someone that’s not beholden to an establishment. So we need a president that can move Congress and I think Donald Trump could do it. I disagree with him on certain issues, and certainly would talk to him more, but this is what this country needs — somebody to wake it up.
Protesters throw condoms
Planned Parenthood supporters and Code Pink activists scream insults and throw condoms at a Fiorina event, a tailgate before a Hawkeyes game in Iowa. Fiorina talks about her with one protester:
She came on and said she was concerned about women’s health and as a cancer survivor I said, I was too. And, she said she was concerned about women’s rights and I said I was too. I said you ought to do a little fact-checking before you come out here and shout propaganda… Taxpayers fund Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood funds pro-abort Democrats. It’s a big shell game.
Becomes a Republican
While in attending the Family Research Council’s Value Voters Summit, in Washington D.C Davis announces that she has switched from being a long-term Democrat to the Republican Party. She was elected as Rowan County Court Clerk as a Democrat,
My husband and I had talked about it for quite a while and we came to the conclusion that the Democratic Party left us a long time ago, so why were we hanging on?
Peace breakthrough
President Santos and leaders of FARC vow to end Latin America’s longest running armed conflict in the coming months after reaching a breakthrough in talks that puts the country closer to peace than it has been in half a century. Both sides have set a six-month deadline to sign a final agreement. After that, the group will demobilize within 60 days. In a joint statement, Santos and the FARC rebels say they have overcome the last significant obstacle to a peace deal by settling on a formula to punish human rights abuses committed during about 50 years of fighting. The formula is designed to demand accountability from belligerents while insulating a deal against possible legal challenges from victims. Santos and Timoshenko shake hands. Santos:
We are on different sides but today we advance in the same direction, in the most noble direction a society can take, which is toward peace.
U.S. Secretary of State Kerry says:
Peace is now ever closer for the Colombian people and millions of conflict victims.

[I take] full responsibility [for the coup and I am] not afraid to face justice. I am happy that we avoided confrontation…It had been “the biggest mistake. We knew the people were not in favor of it. That is why we have given up. waste of time and resources… and human lives were lost.
Drops out of race
Walker drops out of the 2016 presidential race, and urged some of his rivals to do the same so the party can unite against the leading candidate, Donald Trump.
Today I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive, conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With this in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately. I encourage other Republican presidential candidates to consider doing the same, so that the voters can focus on a limited number of candidates who can offer a positive, conservative alternative to the current front-runner.
Appointed U.S. ambassador
Cuba appoints Cabanas as U.S. ambassador, the first person to take the position since 1961. He is received by President Obama with 15 other new diplomats from other countries. The U.S. has yet to make an announcement about who will serve as its new ambassador in Havana.
We never had the flagpole in the place where it is now, because it was on the top of the house. And it’s the first time ever, we had the flag pole outside, and the meaning is different….We’re finally recognizing each other as states, as sovereign countries. And for anyone, any citizen in the world, the use of his own flag is very important and meaningful.
