Calls Obama to release TPP text
Fiorina calls on Obama to release the text of the trade deal:
Of course, I support free and fair trade. But President Obama has made lofty promises before and we’ve learned with this White House that the devil is in the details. And the details are frequently very different than the lofty goals with which he describes the deal. So I’d like President Obama to tell us what’s in his trade deal before we grant him this broad fast track authority. So far, though, he’s been unwilling to do that and Hillary won’t even take a position on it. That should concern us. Mr. President, if you want TPA to pass, please just tell us what is in TPP.
Condition update
Iglesias’ sister Falco says he is recovering from reconstructive surgery on his hand days after suffering a bloody accident during a concert in Tijuana, Mexico.
He is okay. I spoke with Anna [Kournikova], and he underwent surgery in Los Angeles. He finished his concert in spite of everything…The truth is it was quite a scare.

During a technical rehearsal for an obituary, tweets were mistakenly sent from the account of a BBC journalist saying that a member of the royal family had been taken ill. The tweets were swiftly deleted and we apologise for any offence.
GMA interview
In an interview with ABC News, Garth says she is working as her own wedding coordinator, as DIY projects have always been a passion.
I want people to be comfortable. That’s my priority no uncomfortable clothing. No high heels.
On staying fit:
My 12-year-old is going to start boxing lessons with me, get some adolescent aggression out — and I hike with my older daughter. My youngest is very active, from jumping on the trampoline to competitive soccer. We like to move! We don’t like to sit around.
On her daughter watching episodes of 90210:
I didn’t see her for four days because she binge-watched them. But she loves it. She was like, ‘That’s really weird, mom.’
CEO: airline ‘Technically Bankrupt’
Malaysia Airlines is “technically bankrupt”, says CEO Mueller as he outlines plans to stabilise the airline, including 6,000 job cuts.
We are technically bankrupt and that decline of performance started long before the tragic events of 2014.
Twitter announcement
Jenner makes her first statement since the Vanity fair article:
I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me.
— Caitlyn Jenner (@Caitlyn_Jenner) June 1, 2015
Vanity Fair video
The magazine releases a video of Jenner’s photo shoot:
I was probably at the games because I was running away from a lot of things. I’m very very proud of the accomplishment. I don’t want to diminish that. The last few days in doing this shoot is about my life, and who I am as a person. It’s not about the fanfare. It’s not about people cheering in the stadium. It’s not about going down he street and everybody giving me an ‘Attaboy Bruce’ pat on the back. This is about your life. Bruce always had to tell a lie. He was always living that lie. Every day he always had a secret, from morning ’til night. Caitlyn doesn’t have any secrets. As soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I’m free.
Media Briefing interview
Highfield is interviewed by MediaBriefing’s Thackray about how Johnston Press has been addressing the structural challenges facing the business, how it is adapting to digital, and how it plans to tackle mobile. Highfield:
People do not buy a local paper to turn to the small ads and sell a push bike. With that having migrated… you can argue it was a major missed opportunity for the regional press not to make more of those verticals like motoring or property… but that’s the past, and now we have a much more stable environment, and our audience numbers… have never been bigger.
Vanity Fair cover
Jenner comes out as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair., appearing in a corset in a photo by Liebowitz.
If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life. You never dealt with yourself,’ and I don’t want that to happen.
In the article she describes doing public appearances after winning the gold medal:
Underneath my suit I have a bra and panty hose and this and that and thinking to myself, They know nothing about me. . . . Little did they know I was totally empty inside. Caitlyn. doesn’t have any lies.
InStyle cover
Kaling appears on the cover of June 2015 issue of InStyle. She talks about her romance with B.J. Novak.
My relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell. He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend…I guess you could describe our relationship as a romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments, but I don’t think Facebook would accept this as a new status.
Elle cover
Theron appears on the cover of June 2015 issue of Elle UK. She talks about her relationship with fellow actor Sean Penn.
Putting aside that he’s my partner, he’s the love of my life. For the first time I felt my work was bleeding into my life and that made it hard.
Glamour cover
Kendrick appears on the cover of June 2015 issue of Glamour. She talks about gender bias in Hollywood and turning 30.
I felt different at 29 because 29, to me, is 30. There are times when I still feel like an actual toddler in a grown-up—well, semi-grown-up—body. But other times I can’t wait to actually be 30, just so I can say things like, ‘I’m 30. I don’t have time for that. F–k off!’
Cosmopolitan cover
Deschanel appears on the cover of June 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan. She talks about achieving success and not posing for a ‘body after baby’ tabloid photo shoot.
Haven’t we all seen those pictures of a sexy new mom in a bikini after one month? I will not be that person. I’ve always gone my own course and never been someone who had the need to be super skinny. I like a healthy look. I don’t buy into that skinny-is-better mentality.
Harper’s Bazaar cover
Stewart appears on the cover of June 2015 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. She talks about fame and having sex scenes in a movie.
Fame is the worst thing in the world. Especially if it’s pointless. When people say, I want to be famous – why? You don’t do anything.
Tribute
President Obama says he and Michelle are grieving alongside the Biden family.
Michelle and I are grieving tonight. Beau Biden was a friend of ours. His beloved family – Hallie, Natalie, and Hunter – are friends of ours. And Joe and Jill Biden are as good as friends get…Beau took after Joe. He studied the law, like his dad, even choosing the same law school. He chased a life of public service, like his dad, serving in Iraq and as Delaware’s Attorney General. Like his dad, Beau was a good, big-hearted, devoutly Catholic and deeply faithful man, who made a difference in the lives of all he touched – and he lives on in their hearts…But for all that Beau Biden achieved in his life, nothing made him prouder; nothing made him happier; nothing claimed a fuller focus of his love and devotion than his family…Beau Biden believed the best of us all. For him, and for his family, we swing our lanterns higher…Michelle and I humbly pray for the good Lord to watch over Beau Biden, and to protect and comfort his family here on Earth.
Catholic church withdraws
The Roman Catholic Church of Burundi announces that it will withdraw its priests appointed to help organize the elections at the heart of the political upheaval in the country.
The Catholic Church cannot support elections that are full of shortcomings. It cannot support a process which is not based on a consensus.
Lays down mattress
After nine months Sulkowicz completes her performance art project, laying the mattress to rest in her parents living room, with the intent to later sell the art piece to a museum. With Nungesser and herself having both graduated, she says that she has no further use for the mattress.
I’m not going to just throw it away. It tells of all the times when things didn’t really go according to plan and all the f-cked-up things that happened. People think I was supposed to have this warlike relationship with it and it was supposed to be this object that I was angry with, but for me, that related to how people chose to read my piece rather than the way I lived with it … I have a scenario planned for the exhibition of my piece…If some sort of museum wants to buy it, then I’m open to that. But I’m not going to just throw it away.
Sulkowicz’s ideal scenario for exhibiting the piece includes the mattress, the collection of plastic bed-wetting sheets that protected it in the rain, instructions to re-create the “Rules of Engagement” she had painted on her studio wall, and a 59,000 word diary that tracked her experiences.
It [the diary] tells of all the times when things didn’t really go according to plan and all the f-cked-up things that happened. It’s the real record of the piece…To me, the piece has very much represented [the fact that] a guy did a horrible thing to me and I tried to make something beautiful out of it…I’ve had the most crazy two years of my life, so I’m ready to go incognito and try to make a life where not everyone is recognizing me. Maybe I’ll change my hair color.
May cede Florida primary
Walker says he may not compete in Florida’s March 15 primary to gain an financial advantage.
If we chose to get in, I don’t think there’s a state out there we wouldn’t play in…I mean, other than maybe Florida, where Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are at least in some of the polls essentially tied….They’re going to eat up a good amount of that financial advantage that Governor Bush is going to have. A good chunk of that will be gone after the Florida primary.
‘Legalized gay marriage is danger to Christianity’
Rubio says that the push to legalize same sex marriage pose a danger to survival of Christianity.
If you think about it, we are at the water’s edge of the argument that mainstream Christian teaching is hate speech. Because today we’ve reached the point in our society where if you do not support same-sex marriage you are labeled a homophobe and a hater…So what’s the next step after that. After they are done going after individuals, the next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the catechism of the Catholic Church is hate speech.
Presidential run announcement expected
In a fundraising email, Santorum acknowledges a tough road ahead — but also signals he is likely to take another stab.
If I announce a campaign for president tomorrow, I’m really going to have an uphill battle ahead of me. The GOP field is already crowded, and it’s extremely competitive.
In his fundraising email, he says he will need to gain instant traction or else be left behind in the dash for money. He will also need to show movement in the polls in order to gain a place on stage in the debates, which are likely to use size of support as a threshold.
