I think because I was the wheel guy 90% of the time, I kind of got the say-so. But we had certain rules. Rule number one was if someone has to pee, you pee at the next exit. There’s no, “Awww but you just went.” When you go 300 miles, you gotta go.

It’s gotten harder having a little person around. I don’t know how others maintain their same lifestyle when they have someone they’re cooking for. Even though Sadie eats incredibly healthy, she eats a lot that I wouldn’t. She has a very fast metabolism and she needs a lot more calories than mama does! It’s been hard to maintain the perfect diet for myself. For breakfast, I juice a big green juice and I try to get in as much raw food and protein as I can, obviously plant proteins and legumes but sometimes it’s late at night and there’s a frozen pizza in there and sometimes it’s all you’ve got! You don’t have the energy to chop up a bunch of vegetables. I go to frozen pizza or soy chicken nuggets when I need a five-minute meal.

I remember, there’d be a few old timers who’d try to give me advice. I remember, Strongbow used to pull me aside and give me some words of wisdom. A lot of times I was too green and arrogant to listen to what he was saying.

I made the pies. when you go to Bob’s Big Boy, they had all these kind of fruit pies, and when you start, that’s the first job you get. I guess I just have that pie-making look.

I’m part of a global commission on drugs, which is basically 15 ex-presidents and myself who have looked at the war on drugs and seen that it’s been a failure. What we want to see happen is for governments to experiment with different approaches. The current approach has definitely not worked. We don’t want people harmed, we want people helped. We want laws changed.

For a long time I wasn’t happy, but that had nothing to do with Beyonce. That had to do with me trying to get my life in order and make better decisions for myself. I’m seeing all these wonderful things happen for her and I am happy for her. But I want a path. I want things to pop off for me, too. Not on her level but whatever my level is supposed to be.
