Talks about fatherhood struggle
Timberlake speaks about his initial struggle with fatherhood.
At first, it broke me down. Those first eight months felt like those old [Ed Sullivan] shows where people are balancing spinning plates on poles – except if you drop one, they die. You go through your life with your own traumas, big and small, and think, ‘It’s not that bad, I have a lot to be thankful for, my parents did the best they could’. But then you have a child of your own, and suddenly it opens all the floodgates, and you’re like, ‘No, no, no!’ That childhood trauma really did f-ck me up!..I have some faint images from my [own] childhood but no, I can’t really remember not being famous. I was about 15 or 16 years old, [NSYNC] were just given a concert in Germany at a festival on this huge field. And we were in the tour bus afterward, driving on a dirt road, and I looked out the window and saw all these young, impressionable females running after the bus. I think we can all agree that I did not have a normal childhood…Would I want my child to follow my path? You know, I haven’t been able to answer that question in my mind. If he wanted it bad enough, I suppose I could teach him a lot about what not to do.
Talks about 90-day rehab
Gomez speaks at a Netflix press event about her 90-day stint in rehab. She also draws parallels between the series she’s working on and her life.
I think that my high school experience may have been a little amplified, so I wouldn’t say it was worse, but it definitely made it harder. To be frank with you, I actually was going through a really difficult time when they started production…I went away for 90 days, and I actually met tons of kids in this place that we’re talking about the issues that these characters [in the series 13 Reasons Why] are experiencing. I would say yes, I have to deal with it on a different scale, whether it was just kids or growing up in the biggest high school of the world, which was Disney Channel. It was also adults that had the audacity to tell me how to live my life. It was very confusing for me, it was so confusing. I had no idea who I was going to be…It’s hard right now. I can’t stand social media, I can’t stand what they’re looking at. I can’t stand what they think is reality, and the show is real as it could possibly get…I want them to understand it. I would do anything to be able to have a good influence on this generation, but I definitely relate to everything that was going on [in the show]. I was there for the last episode, and I was a mess just seeing it all come to life because I’ve experienced that.

Grammys announce Prince, George Michael tribute
The Recording Academy announces that the 59th annual Grammy Awards will pay homage to Prince and George Michael, who both died in 2016.
While the primary focus of the Grammy Awards is to celebrate and honor the year’s best in music, we consider it our responsibility to tell music’s broader story by honoring its legends lost—that’s what we strive to achieve with our annual tributes. While it’s nearly impossible to convey the full depth of an artist’s cultural impact in a single performance, it’s that very challenge that has led us to some of our most memorable Grammy moments.

Announces first shoe line
Perry gears up to launch her very first shoe line, Katy Perry Collections, which will open on katyperrycollections.com on February 16. Perry says she named each of the pieces in the collection after her friends and family. These include The Hillary shoe which is named after Hillary Clinton and The Lena, named after Lena Dunham.
I’ve been courting this idea for several years. For half my career, people have been asking me when I’m getting into fashion. It’s always been simmering under the surface, but I wanted to do it the right way and be the real creative contributor. This is something that I’ve created from the bottom up…I’m a big fan of very unique shoes. There are so many different vibes [in the line] because that’s who I am, and I love so many different things. They all represent my personality and the many moods and characters I’ve displayed throughout my life and career. Fashion is a way to express yourself, so I wanted to make personality pieces that will help you put an exclamation mark at the end of your wardrobe. We can say we’re funny or romantic or serious or sarcastic just by how we display ourselves.
Vogue cover
Graham, Hadid, Jenner, Wen, Hammam, Aboah and Ceretti appear on the cover of Vogue. Speaking on promoting inclusion and issues of size, Graham:
Sixty-seven percent of the women in America wear a size 14 or larger. Sixty-seven percent. Maybe you could ignore those consumers before, but now, thanks to social media, they’re making their voices heard. Women are demanding that brands give them what they want. And what they want is to be visible.
Hadid:
Most of the people I know in this industry are compassionate and open-minded, and they appreciate creativity and originality. It’s like can’t we just honor that? I mean look around — these are the people actually making fashion. All types, all working together to make magic.
Jenner:
This is my second Vogue cover, and to be sharing that not only with one of my best friends, but with all of these amazing women, is very meaningful for me. With all that’s going on in the world, this cover makes such an important statement. It’s like, Hey, we’ve got our differences, but those differences are beautiful. Everyone is beautiful.
Beyonce sued for $20 million by Messy Mya estate
The estate of late Messy Mya sues Beyonce for copyright infringement and other counts, seeking $20 million for damages over claims that she improperly used Mya’s voice in her song Formation. According to the suit, Formation misappropriated the lyrics “What happened at the New Orleans” and “Bitch, I’m back by popular demand” from Barre’s 2010 work Booking the Hoes From New Wildings. The suit also claims that the line “Oh yeah baby. I like that” from his A 27-Piece Huh? was wrongfully lifted. The lawsuit reads:
Defendants used Mr. Barre’s voice, performance and words from his copyrighted works to create the tone, mood, setting and location of the New Orleans-themed Formation.

Adopts orphaned twin sisters
Madonna adopts two orphaned twin sisters aged 4½ from Malawi. The father and uncle of the girls are witnesses to the adoption. Malawi judiciary spokesperson:
Their mother died a week after she delivered the babies in August 2012. After their mother died, the children were looked after by their grandmother, who could not fully provide for them, so they were taken into an orphanage. [Madonna] exuded happiness. She smiled while she was making her way out of the courtroom, and then she drove away with her new daughters. She has been involved in so many projects and is currently helping to expand the children’s ward at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. So Madonna has been coming to Malawi frequently. So it is not unusual to people in Malawi at all. They know Madonna very well in terms of the high-profile work she has done for the community.
