Well I had to come up with a whole other way of doing things because of the weightlessness. And the whole thing about outer space is that there’s no up and down. So I had to think of ways to convey that to the audience.

Graham leaves Yahoo after spending one and a half years working on Yahoo Store, the new iteration of Viaweb. He says the company lacked a clear vision, and was somewhere between a tech company and a media company:

Project managers at Yahoo were called “producers,” for example, and the different parts of the company were called “properties.” But what Yahoo really needed to be was a technology company, and by trying to be something else, they ended up being something that was neither here nor there. That’s why Yahoo as a company has never had a sharply defined identity.

Alamuddin graduates from New York University School of Law, where she receives the Jack J. Katz Memorial Award (conferred for excellence in the field of Entertainment law). During her time at NYU she studied both public international law and U.S. law, and worked for one semester as a student law-clerk at the Chambers of Judge Sonia Sotomayor at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Carney, Grollmus begin dating

Carney and Grollmus begin dating. The pair start a short-lived band, Churchbuilder, which opens for Mary Timony at a campus show. Grollmus says:

…we soon realized the limitations of my musical skills. For me, singing and playing keyboards proved as challenging as discrete math. Our little duo wouldn’t be able to pull it off without help. We quickly recruited a couple of friends to perform with us. We taught them the very simple structures of our four modest songs and then, together, learned how to play “Tugboat” by Galaxie 500 as the final number. Five songs, 20 or so minutes. That would have to do.

Rowe and Jackson divorce. She relinquishes custody of her two children, Prince and Paris. She receives a settlement of $8.5 million, an SUV and a Beverly Hills home. She receives an additional $2 million for entering into a confidentiality agreement.

HP hires Fiorina as CEO although she has no experience in the computer industry. She says the company has plenty of computer people, she plans to focus more on the type of person who should be running the company.

Look, lack of computer expertise is not Hewlett-Packard’s problem. There are loads of people here who can provide that. I’ve demonstrated an ability to pick up quickly on the essence of what’s important. I know what I don’t know. And I know that our strengths are complementary. You have deep engineering prowess. I bring strategic vision, which HP needs.
