After three years of dating Barack Obama marries Michelle Robinson at Trinity United Church in Chicago, Illinois. At the wedding, their first dance is to Stevie Wonder’s You and I. Michelle says that in Barack’s vows, he promises her a life that will be interesting. At the time she is 28 and he is 31.
Demi Lovato born in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Demetria Devonne Lovato is born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Patrick Martin Lovato, an engineer and musician, and Dianna Lee Hart, a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. Lovato’s parents divorce right after her second birthday. Lovato has one full older sister Dallas Lovato, one younger maternal half sister Madison De La Garza and one paternal half older sister Amber Lovato.
Lovato struggled with suicide and depression at an early age. Lovato says that her struggles began even before she landed a spot as a cast member on Barney.
Even before Barney, I was suicidal. I was seven. With Barney, I guess subliminally, I did have a relationship with this figure that was saving my life in a way … I’ve talked about being bullied and the years of being a teenager, but I went through things when I was younger that I’ve never talked about that probably caused me to turn out the way I ended up turning out.
When I was younger, I needed someone in the spotlight to idolize, who stood for positivity and light and happiness, and wanted to change the world. And because I didn’t have that, I realized I want to do that, if only for my 12-year-old little sister.
Becomes U. Virginia professor
Bond joins the faculty of University of Virginia. Over 20 years he teaches more than 5,000 students about the Civil Rights Movement in the larger context of American history. He also leads numerous U.Va.-sponsored Civil Rights South Tours, giving his firsthand knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement.

Paige is born in Norwich, England. Her parents, both professional wrestlers, run a wrestling school which she regularly attends to practice with her brothers. She decides to pursue professional wrestling at a young age, making her debut at age 13.
Charlotte Emma Aitchison born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Charlotte Emma Aitchison is born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, to Shameera and Jon Aitchison. Her mother is Ugandan Indian and her father is of Scottish origin. Her father is a club promoter and books acts like Bob Marley and the Wailers, and Siouxsie Sioux. She attends Bishop’s Strotford College.
My dad always encouraged me to be weird. I never really knew what that meant, but I think he meant, be yourself rather than follow a trend.
Houston, Brown marry
Houston marries Brown in front of 800 people wearing all white. Houston wears a $40,000 dress made of French lace and has the reception party decorated in purple, her favorite color.
I was a nervous wreck, I cried during the ceremony, but I’ve been ecstatic ever since. Bobby is crazy.
Isaac Azimov dies at 72
Asimov dies at age 72 at New York University Hospital. At this time the cause of death is heart and kidney failure according to his brother Stanley. In 2004 Janet and Robyn Asimov reveal that Asimov’s death was caused by complications related to HIV. Asimov’s doctors had pushed the author to remain quiet about having contracted the illness from a blood transfusion during bypass surgery. Janet Asimov says of the discovery before a surgery:
The surgery was cancelled, and the doctors told us not to reveal Isaac’s HIV. I argued with the doctors privately about this secrecy, but they prevailed, even after Isaac died.
Sally Mugabe dies age 61
Sally Mugabe dies from kidney failure. She is interred at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Hired by Turner Broadcasting
Yaccarino is hired by Turner (formerly Turner Broadcasting System). She will stay at the company for 19 years and 11 months.
Emma Sulkowicz born in New York
Sulkowicz is born in New York, to Sandra Leong and Kerry Sulkowicz, psychiatrists from Manhattan. She is of Chinese, Japanese and Jewish descent.
Reservoir Dogs
Tarantino releases his first film, Reservoir Dogs, at the Sundance Film Festival in which it is nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. The story revolves around a team of criminals before and after a catastrophic diamond heist. It stars Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, and Tarantino as Mr. Brown.

Porko Rosso
Miyazaki’s love for aircraft is showcased in his newest release, Porco Rosso. The story follows Marco Pagott, a mercenary cursed into the form of a pig, as he collects bounties for apprehending pirates in the 1920’s.
Japan Airlines needed a short film to screen during their flights. At first, we weren’t up for it — when we said we’d like to show dogfights, we thought they’d say no. But then they said, ‘That’s fine’ (laughs). Really, it was based on my hobby, and I wanted to make something light.
Hook
Spielberg directs directs this film about Peter Pan as an adult. When his children are kidnapped by the vengeful Captain Hook, Pan must return to Nevernever land and try to save them. Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman star as Pan and Hook.
I think it’s a film I failed on. I should have told more of the Peter Pan story. And not allowing Robin to be funny was a mistake.
Cody Alan Williams born
Williams’s third child and second son, Cody Alan, is born. The second child of Williams and second wife Marsha Garces, his sister, Zelda Williams, is two years older and a half-brother, Zachary Williams, is eight years his senior. On raising him and his siblings:

Shailene Woodley born in California
Shailene Dianne Woodley is born in San Bernadino County, California. Her mother Lori, nee Victor, is a middle school counseler. Her father, Lonnie, works as a school principal and then a family therapist. She is raised in California’s Simi Valley with her younger brother, Tanner. She suffers scoliosis when she is young, and says this helps her to become resilient. Her parents are divorced, but the family remains close.

Dylan O’Brien is born in New York City. His parents are Lisa (née Rhodes) and Patrick O’Brien. His sister Julia is a year older. The family live in New Jersey and later move to Hermosa Beach, Calif.
My dad’s a camera operator in the industry and my mom was an actress when she was young and she had an acting school when I was a little kid so I’ve always been around the industry. My parents let me watch all the movies so I’m a movie geek.
Becomes AU adjunct professor
Bond becomes distinguished adjunct professor of government at American University’s School of Public Affairs. He teaches more than 500 students in an honors course focusing on the oral history of the civil rights movement, and an advanced study of the politics of civil rights.
After teaching at many fine schools, the students I am closest to are those I met and taught at SPA. We have developed lasting and continuing relationships.
