My Kinda Party

The artist releases My Kinda Party, from his album with the same name.

I think the song is that exact song; it is the song that we always look for to launch an album. For us, we want to come out and push the envelope with that first single and get everybody’s attention. It’s like, OK, we’re coming out with a new album and here’s the first single. I think it stands up to the others. Brantley [Gilbert, the song’s writer] actually pitched the song for the last album and we just got it late in the game. At the end of recording every album, we have a handful of songs that we love, and ‘My Kinda Party’ was one of those. We knew if it was around when we cut again we would record it. It’s loud, it’s obnoxious and will get some attention, and that’s what we try to do on this record and with the other albums.

Kiss Goodbye

The group releasesKiss Goodbye, from, The Reason Why. Sweet:

It was pitched to us. We must have been listening to too many songs that day and just didn’t hear it. And then one night Jimi (Westbrook) was at home listening through some songs and he listened to Kiss Goodbye and he started to get really excited, and then he put the headphones on Karen (Fairchild). She was sitting at the computer, so they emailed the song, we all listened and agreed and it came together. I went and played piano on the track at the end, it just gave it a nice, real lush quality and I love that. And we hadn’t really ever done a song like that for Little Big Town. I thought it was cool we got to do that.

Why Wait

The band releases, Why Wait, from their album, Nothing Like This. DeMarcus:

Right when we heard ‘Why Wait,’ it instantly caught my attention as we were listening down through literally hundreds of songs on our [compilation] CDs. I kept going back to that one, because it’s such a unique melody and such a unique feel for us. It’s actually a shuffle, and we’ve never recorded a shuffle before. I remember I had a phone conversation with Gary [LeVox, Rascal Flatts’ lead singer] and I said, ‘Man, the second song on this comp, Why Wait, is really, really different for us and really catchy, and I think it could really showcase our harmonies.’ So when we went into the studio, we knew instantly that it was something special for us, and it was going to be a showcase piece on the album. Didn’t know it was going to be the first single by any means, but as we listened back through to some of the songs as we started to get the vocals on them, it just rose above the rest, and it became a no-brainer.

Stuck Like Glue

The group releases their song, Stuck Like Glue, from The Incredible Machine. Bush:

The song is about having fun; it’s supposed to make you feel good. Sometimes you try to write a song that you want to change the world, and sometimes you write a song that you want to just change your day! This song is just supposed to change your day, but the fact that it has provoked conversation is OK! Art is supposed to be provocative. If it isn’t, it belongs in an elevator.

Teenage Dream

Perry releases the single, Teenage Dream, from her album with the same name, Teenage Dream.

Teenage Dream is a euphoric feeling. It gives off this feeling that a lot of people have been through. I remember my teenage years, and I remember falling in love for the first time and how impressionable that was. How sensitive I was to every feeling. Heartbreak was really hard. Of course heartbreak is really hard now, and love is still intense, but it’s a different type of feeling, that teenage love. I want people to have that feeling again of falling in love unabashedly – those teenage dreams.

Trailerhood

Keith releases his single, Trailerhood, from his album, Bullets In The Gun.

I was riding my motorcycle and had a couple of dudes with me. We were in an old neighborhood out in the country where I used to live. And there’s a trailer park out there. Somebody said, ‘Hey, let’s go eat.’ We’re starting to turn around and I realize they’ve put railroad tracks in and blocked the street I wanted to take. So I was going to say, ‘Let’s go in the trailer park’ or, ‘Let’s go in this neighborhood and turn around.’ But instead I said, ‘Let’s go in this trailerhood.’ And one of the guys said, ‘The old trailerhood, huh?’
I lived in one for a couple of years when I was 19 after I moved off my parents’ farm. It was a real nice, gated trailer park with a pool. I had a lot of fun. There were always guys drinking beer, always a poker game and kids playing ball in the streets. Everybody in my area is a Dallas Cowboys fan, so they’re always getting together to watch the games. Then you just go white trash on it with the tattoos, farmer tans, NASCAR and rodeo. Everyone knows trailer parks take a beating from tornadoes, so when you talk to people in L.A. they want to know how someone could live in one. What they don’t understand is that tornadoes are exciting. Unless it’s bulls-eyed right for you, everybody is outside watching them go by. So I brought all these thoughts together and wrote it by myself over Christmas break. I told the guys when we cut it that I wanted to be real original and organic with it; the bass drum going and the bass right there in a simple, marching band kind of feel.

Misery

Maroon 5 releases the single, Misery, from their album, Hands All Over. Adam Levine:

Misery’ is about the desperation of wanting someone really badly in your life but having it be very difficult. Kind of what all the songs I write are about. I’m not treading on new ground, but I think a lot of people – including myself – deal with that all the time. Relationships are difficult, and it’s good therapy to write about them.

Half of My Heart

The artist releases his single, Half of My Heart, from his album, Battle Studies.

I woke up with the song in my head called Half of My Heart and the idea is that it’s this real sort of updated – not that it needs to be updated – sort of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks thing. I thought, ‘Well, if this is going to be my love letter to that style of music, who’s going to be the Stevie Nicks in this equation?’ And I thought, ‘This Taylor Swift girl is going to be around for a long time.

Can’t Be Tamed

Miley Cyrus releases the single, Can’t Be Tamed, from her album with the same name, Can’t Be Tamed.

I think it definitely shows a change of what people remember me as, but it’s not trying to not be me. I didn’t want to be just a character. I wanted to be myself and just in a bird-like form in the way I dressed.

If I Die Young

The group releasesIf I Die Young, from their self titled album. Perry:

That song works on so many levels and means different things to different people. It was just one of those songs that you felt like was meant to be on planet earth. We were just real humble to have the pen and paper in hand when it was ready to come, and for us it is a statement of contentment. We finished that song and just looked at each other and said, ‘How cool is this that we were able to put feet to our dreams?’ So many people work so hard for so long and for whatever reason are not able, or don’t have the opportunity to access their dreams. So for us it was a statement of you know what, if it all ends at this moment for whatever reason even at our young ages, we’ve gotten to live and love so well and so completely. And that’s what it means to us.

Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)

The artist releases Un-thinkable (I’m Ready), featuring vocals from Drake, from The Element Of Freedom. Drake:

They reached out and she said she really wanted me to do something on her project. But she wanted me to do me, not do an Alicia Keys record. And man, she gave me one of the best studio experiences of my life.I came in there and instead of being like, ‘Here’s the beat, get to work,’ she was just like, ‘Play me your favorite songs and lets battle.’ It’s almost like the transition from [listening to] great music to making a song – like, no one even noticed it, because she started playing the keys and I just started writing the melodies.

They reached out to us directly and they just said, ‘We have this song and we just think Rihanna would be perfect to sing it, And, of course, I was like, ‘OK, if I love it, I’ll definitely do it, because I love Eminem.’ And I love the song. It’s really beautiful, and it really stands out. It’s a really unique record. I’m really excited about it.

My serotonin level changes, my personality changes. California Gurls talks about all those iconic things that you’ve seen on postcards and on TV. And I wanted to do a homage to the Beach Boys.
