Police station attack: 11 dead
11 people are reported dead after a terrorist attack on a New Delhi 
. Chief of Police:
Six victims were killed — three civilians and three security forces. The raid was a terror attack but it is not immediately clear to which group the attackers belonged. We know that the same gunman earlier fired at a nearby bus stand before storming the police station, which is next to a hospital.
Suicide bombing kills three
A suicide bomber drives a vehicle filled with explosives into a unit of Libyan soldiers in central Benghazi. Three are killed and 11 are wounded, some critically. The bomber targeted a unit of soldiers engaged in a street battle near the city’s port and naval base. This is an area where pro-government forces and bands of militarized Islamists frequently clash. Suicide bombings have become frequent in the eastern port city, where forces loyal to the country’s internationally recognized government have been clashing with Islamist fighters, part of chaos gripping the oil producer.
Authorities hunt lion killer
Zimbabwean authorities are trying to find the hunter who killed Cecil. The 13-year old lion was found headless after being shot with a bow and arrow. Hunters then tracked the dying animal for 40 hours before they killed it with a rifle. Bait, in the form of a freshly killed animal, was used to tempt Cecil out of the park, a technique commonly used so that hunters can “legally” kill protected lions.
Cecil’s death is a tragedy, not only because he was a symbol of Zimbabwe but because now we have to give up for dead his six cubs, as a new male won’t allow them to live so as to encourage Cecil’s three females to mate. The two people who accompanied the hunter have been arrested but we haven’t yet tracked down the hunter, who is Spanish.
Three terrorists killed
Pubjab Police shoot and kill three heavily armed terrorists in the dawn-to-dusk offensive at Dinanagar after they arrive from Pakistan late in the night. The terrorists plant five improvised explosive devices on a railway track before getting in the police station. Director General of Police Saini:
The Union government had also offered to move in National Security Guards (NSG) but Punjab Police wanted to prove that they had the expertise to handle any situation. All the officers taking part in this operation were battle-hardened soldiers of the state’s fight against terrorism. We are grateful for the army’s assistance, though.
Escalator swallows Chinese woman
A woman (Xiang Liujuan) dies after falling into an escalator in a shopping centre in central China. Surveillance footage shows a metal panel at the top of the escalator giving way, causing the woman and her toddler to stumble. Employees standing at the top of the escalators tried to pull the woman to safety, but were unable to stop her from being pulled in. The woman pushes her child to safety. The incident in Jingzhou, in Hubei province, has sparked widespread anger at the department store.Local authorities are investigating the incident.
Passengers survive plane crash
A single-engine Piper Cherokee 6 crashes into a lake in Queensland. All six people including the pilot are alive. One woman has a back injury. The plane hit a downdraft and rapidly lost altitude before crashing on to the lake. Local Resident:
I drove out and I saw a plane in the middle of the lake. It was sitting on the surface. I saw the doors being pushed open. I saw people falling out of the plane into the water. Then within five minutes the plane started to sink nose first.
Plane crash kills three
A small plane crashes in Tokyo. single-engine propeller falls into a row of houses and causes a fire. The pilot, one of the passengers, and one woman from the house die. Resident.
There was kaboom! I ran upstairs, then I saw the house just over there on fire, with a tail of the plane sticking out of it
Cosmopolitan Hotel fire
A fire at the Cosmopolitan Hotel poolside in Las Vegas injures two and forces guests to evacuate as it burns trees and cabanas. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire Chief:
There was some damage to some windows; very, very minor damage to the building. It was contained to the pool area.
Daughter sees shark kill father
A great white shark kills a man as his daughter watches, while they are diving for scallops off the coast of Tasmania. After returning to the boat with some of the catch, the daughter looks back for her father, and sees a large shark attacking him. The woman sets off a flare and makes an emergency phone call, prompting other boaters to respond. The type of shark is not identified. This is only the fifth fatal shark attack “since convict times”. [The man] did not return to the surface [and] his daughter became worried and went down and checked on her father. She saw a very large shark and she saw her father being attacked by the shark…They pulled up the [man] using the air hose that he was attached to, but unfortunately he was fatally injured
Executes gay men
Islamic State militants execute two men accused of being gay by throwing them from the roof of a tall building in Palmyra and then stoning them. ISIS has been using its fighters in honey traps to expose gay men and then kill them.
Fontana, CA, quake
A earthquake of 4.3 magnitude strikes in Fontana,California. The quake was felt over a wide area of the Inland Empire and eastern Los Angeles County. In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
Missing at sea
Cohen and Stephanos are last seen on a 19-foot, single-engine vessel, refueling near Jupiter, Florida. A $100,000 reward is offered for their rescue. Coast Guard:
It’s relatively warm, but, again, it’s a dangerous environment, and there’s only so long you could stay in the water.
Suitcase found
The crew cleaning the beach near Saint-Andre, La Reunion, reports to the police that they found a damaged suitcase two-and-a-half meters from the airplane debris. They do not know whether there is any connection between the two.
We set aside all the garbage we had gathered on the beach during the day and today we thought that old suitcase could be related. It could have been thrown into the sea from the beach.
Authorities say that the plane debris and suitcase will be sent to a special lab in Toulouse, France who will examine the evidence.
Kills two, injures nine
Houser kills two people and injures nine others in a shooting at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, about 20 minutes into a screening of the movie Trainwreck. One of the victims dies at the scene. A second victim dies at an area hospital. Police recover a .40 caliber handgun at the scene; at least 13 bullets are discharged in all. Witness:
We look to the left and it’s the shooter just standing up just shooting at the whole crowd. He was, like, 6-7 seats down from us. … He just looked like a common guy off the streets, good looking guy, just normal … (with) white hair white facial hair. And said nothing.

Factory workers report a U.S. unarmed MQ-1 surveillance and reconnaissance drone crash in the Iraqi desert near Baghdad. U.S. official:

20 dead in suicide bombimng
Over twenty people die in twin suicide attacks by two 15-year-old girls in Maruoa, in northern Cameroon. One girl attacks a busy marketplace and the other targets a neighborhood area.
We are still searching if there are more bodies because many people were in the market and some are still in their shops, said police officer Eric Bambue, describing the scene as the worst thing he had ever seen.
Bison attacks selfie taker
A bison gores a woman trying to snap a selfie photo close to one of Yellowstone Park’s famed bison, the fifth attack on a tourist who has ignored warnings to admire the mammals from afar. The 43-year-old Mississippi woman and her daughter are standing with their back to a bison, which can weigh up to one ton , when it charges, tossing her into the air and inflicting minor injuries. Suspected ISIS suicide bomber kills 30
A suspected Islamic State suicide bomber kills at least 30 people, mostly young students, in an attack on a Turkish town near the Syrian border. Witness:
I was behind a banner so I couldn’t see the attacker, but we understand it was a suicide attack. I was thrown to the ground…I jumped up and began running before I even realised I was hurt.
Fights off shark
Fanning fights off a shark while competing in the J-Bay Open in South Africa, the sixth stop on the 2015 Samsung Galaxy World Surf League. His punches the shark on the back to try to scare it away. His surfboard leash is severed and he escapes unharmed. The competition is cancelled.

Car bomb kills 120
A car bomb kills 120 people and injures hundreds of citizens at a busy market in Khan Bani Saad, north of the capital Baghdad. The Islamic State says one of its members drove three tonnes of explosives into a crowd. Police:
