Every time we hear a song and it sounds like we would have written it, we always are willing to cut it. That song has all the elements that we love in a great song … it’s got that Southern Gothic kind of feel to it, and it’s a love song. But it’s written in kind of a dark way and that’s what we really like about it.

I wrote Oath for Cher Lloyd because there were really no best-friend anthems out there. Not only did she love it, she wanted me to rap on it, too! I’ve been a fan of Cher’s since Swagger Jagger came out. She’s so little, yet so in-your-face. That’s what I want to be like!

It came about as a title because, of course, it’s a song on the record. But the process also kind of felt like a storm. Fast and furious and overwhelming and quickly gone. It feels like there’s a really good storm brewing in our camp. Something that comes through every once in a while and it’s really good, but it’s powerful and just a change in the air twirling around. It’s a tornado in a good way.

An interesting fact about this video is that there is no green screen.The giraffe is real, every location is a real location. We flew 10,000 miles to do this, which is a lot of fun for me. I love to see the world. I’m in the right line of work for that.

Don’t Stop The Party featuring TJR was basically a beat that was huge in Europe. TJR produced it when we were out there on tour. We were in Stockholm, Beirut Cafe with RedOne. We did 30,000 people in Hanover, 80,000 people in London and 90,000 people in Morocco.
So this is the record of me telling them and the whole world – whether it’s a bad global economy, whether it’s poverty, wars, you name it – I’m telling them don’t stop the party. Enjoy and escape no matter what.

With this record, I kept waiting for the title to come, and everyone’s like ‘What’s it going to be?’ And up until the very last minute, we didn’t have anything. But I wasn’t worried about it; because it always appears at a certain point. Push and Shove the song was one of the tracks we were working on last … and we got so excited about that song, it just finally all came together, and it felt like the kind of song that was everything we’ve ever been, yet it was new and modern. The record had been such a journey, and so hard to actually finish, we really had to fight to get to the end … so it kind of rose to the top [as a title]; like ‘Yeah, that’s what this whole thing was.’ It just seemed to sum it all up.
